This is a request to the citizens of St. Johnsbury to appropriate $115,000 to support programs and services for St.

Johnsbury Athenaeum.

Our mission:
The St. Johnsbury Athenaeum is committed to promoting lifelong learning through art, literature and information services, and preserving its National Historic Landmark building, collections and furnishings.

Did you know?

The appropriation represents 18% of the operating revenues needed to support valuable benefits and services. The appropriation from the Town of St. Johnsbury for the Athenaeum has been approved every year since 1922! The citizens of St. Johnsbury pay $15.12 per person per year in tax revenues ($115,000 appropriation) to support the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum. This is far less than the national ($35.81) and state ($26.30) per capita average.*

The annual town appropriation helps provide the citizens of St. Johnsbury:
Online access to over 40,000 books and associated items for adults and children Free downloads of over 5,200 audio books and 1,873 e-books Wireless access throughout the building a fiber optic upgrade in the Spring of 2013 will double our bandwidth speed Over 500 FREE continuing education online classes through Universal Class Free admission to over 50 programs and events featuring lectures, workshops, poetry readings, book launches, and technology training A beautiful and historic architectural treasure that remains a source of inspiration Support from professionals who specialize in library and curatorial services Interaction with tourists and friends from across the state and throughout the world The ability for the Athenaeum to support area businesses by attracting thousands of tourists to our area

Voting yes signifies your desire to support and sustain these services. Without the appropriation, the Athenaeum would face significant reductions in services and staff.

Please vote yes!

We remain grateful to the residents of St. Johnsbury for contributing towards the resources necessary to accomplish our goals. Thank you!
