This month WPW presents New Horizon Pro Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Ignition and Australasian Wrestling Federations Son of Anarchy, Daxon Kage.

Photo: Tez Himself Six months ago, I had what many believed to be my last wrestling match in WA. It would be the last time I would ever get a real break in the sport. Sadly, it never happened then. By December, I thought I had had enough; until I gave it one more chance in Adelaide. By that time, the Son of

Anarchy was born, and a renewed sense of purpose came to me in the sport: To cause chaos and mayhem for all to see. With my successes in PWI (Adelaide) and AWF (Melbourne, Sydney and Perth), I knew it was time to come back home. Im letting Anarchy run loose here in Perth; having wrestled greats such as Joel Bateman, Paul Thornton, Space boy Dacey, Percy T, Jarrad Slate etc. Learning so much and gaining new opportunities, Ive never felt better. Its been a fun six months, debuting against Dante Slade in SA, competing in three Supanova events this year and even getting a shot at becoming the first ICW Titanium Champion, all I can say is that its full speed ahead from here. Hold on. Im trailing off the original subject. For those who are unaware, this marks the one year anniversary of Westside Pro Wrestling. And what a joyous contribution by those who wish to spread the word of Professional Wrestling in this great state and country. Despite those who may not appreciate their efforts, its a damn good job gentlemen. As for myself, Ill have New Horizon in my sites and well as ICW and PWI in the next few months. One year down, many more to come. Just remember three things world: Westside Pro rules, Wrestling rules and most importantly, ANARCHY RULES. Son of Anarchy Daxon Kage

EXTRA EDITORIAL the World has made it worthwhile keeping WPW I cant believe it has been 12 months already since going and has mostly been a great experience. I first came up with the idea for Westside Pro I would like to especially thank Explosive Pro Wrestling. The first issue was started on August 22, Wrestling, New Horizon Pro Wrestling and 2009 when I had been inspired to finally start the Southern Hemisphere Wrestling Alliance for their newsletter. The original seed for the idea began continued support. I would also like to thank those back in 2004 when I worked on an unreleased EPW who have been happy to be affiliated with WPW. Almanac. W*ING Fans, Alliance-Wrestling, The Indy Show Doing the newsletter hasnt always been easy but and australianprowrestling.com the support I have received from the promotions, wrestlers and fans alike throughout Australia and Tez Himself

JURAH PUTS A STOP TO BREWING STORM

then got a small measure of revenge on the champion hitting the Eye of the Storm. Taylor in a daze proceeded to hit Storm with a cutter, thinking it was Jurah. The next show Telethon Bash on August 14 will feature a tournament to crown a new number one contender, with the winner getting his shot against whoever is the champion at Re-Awakening 9. The Quarter Final matches have been named with Storm vs. Taylor, Mikey Nicholls vs. Bobby Marshall, Shane Haste vs. Sebastian Sander and a Battle Royale. NEW TAG CHAMPS

Screen Capture: Explosive Pro Wrestling Davis Storms hopes to become EPW Champion were dashed when Jamie Jurah refuse to wrestle Storm at Hell or Highwater, as he was not the number one contender. Board of Directors member, Brett Corvus, came out and said although Jurah did not have to defend his title against Storm he would have to compete. Corvus proceeded to make Storm the referee for Jurahs title defense, which would be against Jay Taylor. The main event saw Jurah retain after a 20 minute plus battle, when Taylor had thought he had won the title, the champion struck him with the belt while Storm was arguing with outside official Matt Smarkson. The Ironman reluctantly made the three count after Jurah had punt kicked Taylor twice and

eliminated by Wimbledon. Most EPW fans had been tipping either the champions to retain or that the third team of The Diamonds in the Rough, Damian Slater and AZ Vegara would win. This is Wimbledons second time as a EPW Tag Team Champion after a three month reign in early 2008 as part of the European Union, while this is Vices first title of any kind. Nicholls, Haste and Slater made an appearance on Channel 10s The 7pm Project promoting the show the night before. SHOTGUN GOES OFF Shotgun Tyler Jacobs frustrated after being eliminated from the Invitational Tournament snapped and brutally attacked current Hardcore Shield holder, Chase Griffin after the three way Elimination Match at Hell or Highwater. The veteran Jacobs proceeded to destroy the shield and was dragged away by EPW officials screaming that Griffin wasnt hardcore. This leaves a question as to what EPW are doing with the title now it has been destroyed. BRAD WEST RETURNS The leader of Team Allstar, Brad West returned after a eight month absence at Hell or Highwater. Last seen being dragged out of EPW, after Sebastian Sander lost to Ferguson Block at ReAwakening 8, West snuck into the ring and hit Rick Sanders with the Yuranagi bomb, after The Blackest Hours DQ loss against Alex Kingston and Adam Banks. Team Allstar are now at full strength to continue their war against The Blackest Hour. SCHMIDT TIMES Gorgeous Garry Schmidt was the focal point of a two page article in the Sunday Times on July 11. The article When the day jobs a wrestle, focused on the man behind the character, Michael Smith. The article also had little tidbits of information on other EPW talent. The past month has also seen EPW promoted on TV with appearances on Weekend Sunrise and the 7pm Project. ***** NHPW INDYGURLZ

a huge one as former two time TNA Knockout Champion, Amazing Kong takes on former PWWA Champion, Jessie McKay and AWFs Bombshell Bo in a Three Way Match. IndyGurlz was a promotion that started in the United States in 2006, featuring names such as Nikki Roxx and Mercedes Martinez. Due to mismanagement to promotion ceased to exist as a stand alone promotion around 2008, before joining up with NHPW-USA in 2009. The beginning of the IndyGurlz division is sure to attract more great women's talent from around Australia and the World. HERITORS ONE YEAR TITLE REIGN August 1 will mark one year since Heritor became Hi-Fi Champion at Hardcore Resurrection when he won a Triple Threat Match over Percy T. and Kid Impact at the Karrinyup Sports Centre. The Australian Gothics toughest title defence to date will happen at Southern Impact as he takes on David Hawk, who has impressed since making his NHPW debut at Hardcore Resurrection 2010. ***** SLATE RETAINS

Southern Impact will see the debuting of a new championship in NHPW, to go along with the Art of Fighting and Light-Heavyweight titles in the form of the IndyGurlz Australian Championship. The First ever match to crown the fist champion is

Photo: Jarod/SHWA After grabbing the SHWA Championship back from the clutches of Ebenizah J. Klaus, Jarrad Slate defended the SHWA Championship for the first time against fan favourite, Crazy Train at Reckless Abandon. The bout which was the Match of the Night was unfortunately brought to an end by the interference of Klaus new faction of Sean Ravage, Avalanche and Elliot Forbes who attacked Slate and then Train after he refused to join in on the Slate beatdown. The pair were saved Slates Muscle Militia partners Pain and The Wraith, as well as former SHWA Champion Mad Mike Massive, who then proceeded to get their revenge against Klaus and his new cronies.

MILITIA FACE TURN Following The Wraiths victory over Jimmy Jamal Jenkins at Reckless Abandon, Muscle Militia manager Ebenizah J. Klaus called the other members to the ring. Klaus proceeded to produce the contract which was signed by all the Militia members and unbeknownst to them the small print stated that whoever was the first Militia member to win the championship would have to relinquish the belt to Klaus. Unhappy with this turn of events to Militia ripped up the contract and were about to attack Klaus when Avalanche and Elliot Forbes came out to beat down the Militia as Klaus walked away with the championship belt on his shoulder. KLAUS IN MASSIVE TROUBLE Mad Mike Massive will be getting a one on one match against his former manager and long time nemesis, Ebenizah J. Klaus at Running Wild on August 14, after defeating the manager and Elliot Forbes in a Handicap Match at Running Wild. The stipulation made by the new SHWA Commissioner, KJ Rollins was that if Massive won he would get Klaus, but if the manager and Forbes won, the former SHWA Champion would be out of their life. SILVA HELPS COST ODOYLE WXW TITLE The Beast Mark Silva had a hand in costing rival, CJ ODoyle his chance to become WXW Champion in the Lumberjack Match on July 17, when he distracted ODoyle, while Dylan Night came in to choke him from behind with an Indian Strap. Eight Years Ago: August 3, 2002 - ECW: Hell or Highwater ECW moved to Queens Park for the first time with the first ever Hell or Highwater, which has gone on to become a mainstay of the yearly EPW calendar along with Evolution and Re-Awakening. The main event saw FN Carnage get his return match from Collision Course, in a losing effort, against ECW Champion, Davis Storm. Jimmy Payne became the new Number One Contender for the title after a win over Justin Sane, while the Uprising continued to run roughshod over ECW with victory in a Six Man Tag over the team of Brock Freeman, Anda Nothica and Shiggins. Five Years Ago: August 27, 2005 - EPW: Cause for Concern The main event of Cause for Concern saw a three on two Handicap with newly crowned EPW Champion, Mikey teaming up with Jag and Psychofett to take on the team of Jimmy Payne and Richter with the match ending in a no contest. Other matches of note included The European Union teaming up for the first time in a losing effort against Awsome Inc., which was followed by the winning pair of Kiel E. Lectrifying and Shane Haste going head to head in a Invitational Tournament Qualifying Match, which saw E. Lectrifying come out on top. In the opening match, big man Tommy Cartel took on a masked opponent who claimed to be a protg of Azazal, which turned out to be Azazal himself. One Year Ago: August 1, 2009 - NHPW/SHWA: Hardcore Resurrection The second night of Hardcore Resurrection saw not only two champions crowned but also, arguably the greatest Womens match ever seen on WA soil. Moving from Maddington to Karrinyup the show opened with a Three Way match to crown the first Light-Heavyweight Champion, which saw Heritor sneakily win the title after his opponents Percy T. and Kid Impact were attacked as Heritor hid under the ring. Mercedes Martinez from the USA took on NSWs Bombshell Bo in an absolute classic which saw Martinez get the win and in the Hardcore main event to crown the first Art of Fighting Champion, Mana survived to become the champion over Steve

Corino, Cannonball Kris Taylor and Blake The Man Mitchell, all the weapons used were brought to the show by the fans including a Bowling Ball and a DVD player. August 8, 2009 - EPW: Breaking Point Breaking Point was a show intended to set up matches for Re-Awakening 8, with the Invitational Tournament Semi Finals and a Number One Contenders match between Bobby Marshall and Jamie Jurah to see who would challenge Richter for the EPW Championship, which was won by Marshall. Three Invitational Tournament Semi-Final matches saw Jay Taylor, Damian Slater and Davis Storm join advance to the final, while making his surprise return to EPW after retiring at Hell or Highwater 2008, Jimmy Payne answered AZ Vegaras Open Challenge. August 15, 2009 - SHWA: Collateral Damage Collateral Damage saw Mad Mike Massive taking only the newly turned heel Jarrad Slate, winning their second singles encounter in SHWA via DQ after the rest of the Muscle Militia came in to attack Massive as he had Slate pinned during the main event. So Cals Jarek Matthews made his SHWA and WA debut, cutting a long promo insulting the SHWA fans and Jake Paragon, thus leading to the feud the two had over the next three months and the best of three series. In another debut, Percy T. also made his in the opening bout with a win against Sven Zoltenhassan. August 29, 2009 - EPW at the Malaga Markets Malaga Markets hosted EPW for the first time with 10 matches held over five sessions throughout the day. The show saw the EPW debut of SoCal wrestler, Jarek Matthews, who was part of a Six Man Tag Match successfully teaming with Davis Storm and Jimmy Payne against Richter, Shotgun Tyler Jacobs & The Don Michael Morleone after earlier defeating Jacobs in a singles match. The card also featured a Round Robin Challenge which saw Jay Taylor defeat Chase Griffin and the Don. August 30, 2009: The first issue of Westside Pro Wrestling was released. It was only nine pages long and was more of a teaser to see if people were interested in the idea. Here we are one year later.

Photo: Southern Hemisphere Wrestling Alliance Westside Pro Wrestling unleashes the Wraith on its readers with a bi-monthly column. You want some of this? Of course you do! Yes. Welcome to Wraiths World. This is my little section and if you don't like it well stiff, someone was stupid enough to give this space of a couple words for me to vent... but your lucky it's only bi-monthly so you only have to put up with it well.... bi-monthly (which is far less than issues of Deadpool come out [That's an idea?! Maybe I could do a team up issue? The Wraith teaming up with Percy T.?!] NowJarrad Slate is the SHWA champion, and we shall celebrate. We will destroy anyone that stands in our way. But. If the time comes for me (or Pain for that matter), to get my hands on the belt, Jarrad will need to understand that what he holds, is the very most important thing to us, and we will not hold back. Shedding some light on the last couple of eventsMr. Mass charity shot at the title. Now theres a charity case if I ever saw one. Pathetic. I also single handily took down Black Sabbath, oh wait Zak Sabbath...Wait he was just called Zak Sab to avoid confusion...Anyhow, I took him down and dragged the South Australian name down with it. WA won so ner-nerI mean we now hold bragging rights! And they have little more than wounded pride to take home with them (and maybe an STD? Im just joking!!! Sheeesh!!) Let us be real now, it was a hard fought battle. It was strange to fight some one with a similar move set. Zak and I both do a running high knee and finish with a DDT. Two warriors who have never met and separated by a huge expanse of land share a similar sense of battle, yet are completely different wrestlers. I applaud thee. And this is how it went down An epic battle, much like Zarbon vs. Vegeta in the Freiza saga. It was back and forth for both of

us, trying to use our finishers early in the match (Zak with the Sabbaths End and myself with the Heavens Door). With the treacherous crowd behind him, he fought back and managed to catch me off guard. Up he went, hit me with his frog splash (well I think thats what he was doing cause he yelled FROGGY loud enough to wake me from my daze). I quickly got to my feet and nailed him with a jumping shoten... Zak was dazed and I quickly capitalized with a superplex. But Alas! He fought back and knocked me down into the Tree of Woe... He stepped on my knee I tried to sit up and fight back but he nailed his patented knee drop!!! (I shoulda seen it coming I did research his moves on YouTube). So with my chest burning from his machine gun like chops and his huge knee drop, I was out of it lying on my back staring at the lights wondering why exactly any of us do this. Then Klaus jumped on the apron to my aide me and lent over the top rope where Zak was perched, ready to fly with a Frog splash. Zak must of slipped (with a little help from Klaus) and crutched himself Ouch!! No time like the present! So with the last of my energy, I managed the IMPACT HEAVENS DOOR (spike DDT with the legs still resting on the turnbuckle but I'll call it want I want). Then, later on in the rumble he was a little choked up about my win, so he targeted me! What did I ever do to the green wearing lad from SA??? Well, revenge is a dish served cold and I got my revenge. But he kick you off the apron and you were eliminated by him you ask. Oh but hes going back to the city of churches (Adelaide for those who are geographically challenged) to pray he never has to face me again!

SHWA in conjunction with NHPW under the AWF banner came together for Supanova which is the highlight of this years nerd calendar, next to the release of Final Fantasy XIII, but, unlike my disappointment in FFXIIISupanova was awesome!!! Come on!! The freaken HULK was there!!

Photo: Jarod You may have also seen Slate on Hey Hey It's Saturday (on Wednesday lol!) along with TNT ( I

wrestled that guy on the Saturday) be out-smarted by some cheesy channel 9 girl and a dude in a Plucka Duck suit (I swear its not the real Plucka Duck!!) Oh and I got to high-five Mange and Kabel, Brothers of Apocalypse as they did a victory lap (dance?) giving cheerful hand slaps to the fans. Confused? yes kiddies, at Supanova anything can happen. But what about my match you ask? Well we were robbed of our victory. Thats all I shall say. Now my fave match of the Supanova weekend was the 5-man Cluster, the last match of it all. Jake Paragon, Daxon Kage, Jimmy Jamal Jenkins, Avalanche and Elliott Forbes with the feel of the match that I think sums up the weekend of crazy randomness which is the annual geek gathering. Jimmy Jamal stole the match though with his dancing hijinks (Damn that dancing fiend). As well as wrestling, some of the SHWA roster entered into the KAMEHAMEHA competition, myself included. Jimmy Jamal went out in the first round. Ash Lighting made it to the qualifying rounds but was knocked out by a girl. Myself? I made it to the semi final but was robbed by a kid in a Uahara Hat (is it because he was Asian?). Maybe it was the hat, maybe he unleashed his bunki, but it was close and as I walked away, my wife looks at me disappointed and says..."You should have powered up."

Rohan Herbstreit has become one of the most respected non-wrestling workers on the Australian scene. For over a decade he has worked behind the scenes for various promotions as a promoter, booker, commentator and manager as well as running the wrestling.net.au website. WPWs Tez gets Rohans thoughts on the scene around the country, whats in the works for WrestleClash and more.

first local show in December 1998. It was a year later that I started to help out with lighting and setting up the ring, anything I could do to get involved. Then I started ring announcing, then commentating and eventually helped book the shows. That was all over a 2 year period and I loved every minute of it. I think to date I have pretty much done every role on a show apart from working the canteen! WPW: What do you think are the best and worst things about Australian Wrestling? ROHAN: Firstly I have completely removed the term Australian Wrestling out of my vocabulary because I refuse to be put under an umbrella with some of the people currently promoting and who are supposedly in the same business I have worked in and out of for the last 11 years. And I think it destroys any hope you have of marketing yourself as a company if you are put in a box with those people who have no idea what professional wrestling is in 2010. To answer your question, the best thing about the scene in this country is entertaining fans, because there are so many people who dont know that live professional wrestling even exists so when they go to a good quality show and actually enjoy themselves then you know you are a part of something that actually works. Whether you are a wrestler, or ring announcer or selling hotdogs, everyone is part of that team and product. There really isnt anything like it, and its what everyones goal should be, every show. Worst things, well thats an endless list, I think obviously some things will never change and thats just the nature of the beast. Everyone has their opinion of what wrestling is and quite frankly can promote anyway they wish. I think the fact that anyone really can buy a ring, purchase a business name and call themselves a promotion is one of the worst things, if not the very worst as there is no control or body that is looking after the industry. WPW: What is your opinion on the West Australian scene? ROHAN: Any opinion of mine is going to be biased to be honest with you, 90% of the stuff I have seen is EPW, but I really believe EPW have set the standard and benchmark for pretty much the entire country now. Whether it be production or inring, they have stepped up and said here we are, now where are you? - and its up to everyone else now to play catch up! But going back to your question, just reading WPW I was surprised to see so much activity taking place in the west and I do read a lot of the forums and see the various websites and YouTube

Photo: Rohan Herbstreit WPW: You stared the website WWF Down Under in the late 90s, which eventually morphed into WNA, the main wrestling website in the country. Did you ever expect the site to become as big as it did? ROHAN: Not really to be honest, I started the site in 1997 as a uni project and I wasnt that smart about pro-wrestling at that time, but I have a passion for it, and pretty much every day for 10 years spent at least an hour updating it to eventually it became more than a hobby and an actual business for me. It really has only started to become profitable over the last 3 years. WPW: Were you a fan of the Australian scene pre-WWF Down Under or was the website how you got into the scene? ROHAN: No I wasnt, I kind of knew it existed but only thought there were one or two promotions, and mainly old guys. The website was how I got involved in the scene. We were lining up to meet Shawn Michaels when he toured here in 1998 and one of the local commentators gave me his business card. Alongside WWF Down Under I was also running a wrestling radio program at the time, so we had the commentators on the radio show and they invited us down to the show so I attended my

clips. I think too many people are taking shortcuts in WA to try and play catch up by promoting USA talent, and then not delivering and somehow trying to speed up the process of evolution by bringing in talent from overseas before you even have a show with talent that can work and a show that actually draws! I mean seriously, if you cant draw more than 200 people then you shouldnt be flying in indy guys from the USA for gods sake, do you honestly think you can make any money or somehow triple your crowd by using guys like Balls Mahoney? You cant buy credibility or respect, there is no indy guy in the world who can bring that, so just by booking them your promotion is all of a sudden more respected. Its not going to happen. Every state is similar in the sense that there are always going to be multiple promotions around, but I think WA is such a small state and there are too many people promoting, and promoting bad stuff too, cause its really easy to edit down a 2 hour show into 3 mins of highlights, add some music and whack it on YouTube and say here we are, when in actual fact you have lied to the audience. You know if they come to the shows they wont see 3 mins of highlights, they are going to see complete rubbish by people who are not experienced enough or mature enough to do the proper training, travel and be taught by those in the industry who can actually teach you and mature you into a capable performer instead of someone who copies a move seen on DVD and is trained by someone who has been in the business five minutes who is probably charging you for the privilege! WPW: Who are your some of your current favourite workers on the Australian scene? ROHAN: I really enjoy watching Shane Haste I think he has come a long way and really stepped up, and seems to get even better every time I see him, its almost scary how good he is and I really wish him well. Perth has some real good young talent, Mikey Nicholls, Bobby Marshall all really believable guys and just so crisp in-ring. In other states I think Damian Slater in Adelaide is fantastic to watch and is getting better in terms of his character development and crowd connection, once he has that down he will be the guy to look out for because he almost has it. In Melbourne you really cant go past Slex for pure athletic ability in ring that isnt matched, its like he is on a different level to everyone else. I saw an amazing match with some young guys in Sydney a month ago - Robbie Eagles and Matt Diamond, they are two guys to look out for, sensational performers in every sense of the word. We have some good talent in this country, we really do.

WPW: In 2008 you promoted the first WrestleClash, which is becoming Australias WrestleMania. Was it difficult to get it up and running, and is it now easier with the success of it getting the talent together? ROHAN: The first show was difficult, last years show was much easier but we got hit with promoting and losing some valuable media due to the Hulk Hogan show on the week before. The thing is now its really not an issue getting talent, I could honestly book a dream card type show in 5 mins, and I reckon within a week I could get very close to everyone on board. The issue is more so the venue and promoting in Victoria at the moment. The Victorian scene is a complete and utter mess, and almost embarrassing. Its really bad, and you go to a venue or go to a newspaper over here and say wrestling and its almost a dirty word now, they dont want to know you. And I can sit and point fingers and blame people, but really it would be up to myself to step up and make a difference if I really wanted to. But dedicating enough time and resources at the moment for me personally is hard. We would really need to get a good team together to make a difference here in Melbourne, I think we have the right people, most are sitting at home no longer involved and thats a shame. WPW: Can you mention anything in regards to plans for WrestleClash III? ROHAN: Nothing yet, as I mentioned before it is difficult at the moment. Benny English who currently promotes Warzone in Melbourne copromoted WrestleClash 2 with me, and we have loosely been discussing concepts for Clash 3 but

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 14

nothing is set in stone. I know there are plenty of people who want to see it, and so many workers who would like on, I get asked almost weekly now. We will see what happens, stay tuned!

create the WrestleClash concept. WPW: Website Creator, Promoter, Behind-thescenes. Which do you prefer doing the most? ROHAN: Probably behind the scenes or commentary, I have commentated more shows this year than I have in the past 5 years and forgot how much I enjoy it. But definitely behind the scenes for me, when you have a show like WrestleClash with so much great talent, you honestly dont need to micro manage as much as I would do a normal show because the talent are that good and you know they will deliver so it doesnt stress you out as much. I used to do all the running sheets for WrestleRock and some shows were like nine pages long (mainly for all the Audio/Video queues, music etc). But WrestleClash was like 4 pages, a breeze, and I enjoy working with good talent, guys like KrackerJak, Slex and Carlo Cannon are so passionate and so entertaining, you know you can trust them and they will always deliver. WPW: When the Wrestling Pit and No Holds Barred websites closed down, WNA was the only place where Australian wrestling could be talked about. Now over the past eighteen months or so Wrestle Hustle, The Indy Show and Australian Pro Wrestling have started. What do you think of the new websites and podcasts that are starting up promoting the Australian scene? ROHAN: Good actually, I dont really have a problem with any of those sites to be honest. I listened to the Indy Show podcast the other week based out of Sydney and didnt really enjoy it however, but they had some good interviews and I think Marek does a good job at Wrestle Hustle, I am all for new sites popping up. I just wish they would look at promotions first and ask some simple questions before they promote them online. WPW: Where do you see Australian Wrestling heading? ROHAN: I think the next step would be getting content onto a media platform of some sort, a free to air Digital Network would be nice, mobile, or possibly over the net with PPV type streaming, or through a DVD distributor. I have no idea why people dont push their DVDs online when companies in the US have basically lived off DVD distribution as a revenue source for years. AWF are taking over IWAs show on Aurora on Pay TV but the channel doesnt have enough reach, IWA have been on for years and they didnt really revolutionise the business, and from what I have seen of AWF recently they really dont have the talent to pull it off either unfortunately. I think the whole community TV, Channel 31, Aurora thing is done, we need to find new ways of getting the various products out to the masses because paying to get onto Community TV isnt going to cut it in

Photo: Rohan Herbstreit WPW: You were part of a group, who left WrestleRock in 2009. Why did you leave what was seemingly a successful promotion and was what you learned at WrestleRock key to you wanting to create WrestleClash? ROHAN: Actually I left to work exclusively on WrestleClash 2 at the time. I had put everything I had into WrestleRock and getting that off the ground in 2005. From putting up posters to setting up the ring, I really worked on every aspect of it and put in so much time and effort. I am really proud of everything that was achieved. When you have a guy like Slex coming out of the crowd in Perth wearing a WrestleRock T-Shirt and even without anything being said on mic people in the crowd knowing who he is and what WrestleRock is then you know you are onto something, and I cant help feel that there was a lost opportunity there which still upsets me to this day. So I felt I the need to move on as it wasnt my vision, the promoters are personal friends of mine and I told them if I walked away and didnt think they could continue without me then I wouldnt walk. But they have managed to keep going and I really hope they can step up and get that show back on track and promoting regularly because I really felt at one point in time that it was the hottest show in the country. I promoted before working for WrestleRock running All Star Wrestling at Crown Casino in Melbourne, I had basic skills but at the time there wasnt much talent around. Now we have the talent which I saw come through as I was working with WrestleRock so that really made me want to see some of the best of the best around and helped

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 15

2010. I think we have some really good talent in this country and thats not the issue. But we are also let down by people who shouldnt be promoting and people who shouldnt be wrestling, and when the level of performance is set, if you are so far under that level set then you should stop. Im not saying we all have to be putting on shows featuring six 5 star matches, Im saying if you cant compete at a certain level then you should stop. If you want it to be a social thing or you love the business and want to make it and live the dream and all that, then fine but there are plenty of jobs in wrestling that dont involve bumping, and we could

use all the support we can get in terms of promoting online, producing talent, selling merchandise, marketing and basic business fundamentals like sponsorship or running a profitable show, that I cant understand those who live in their own little bubble and cant see they are not helping anyone! WPW: Thank you for speaking to WPW Rohan. ROHAN: Its a pleasure, I enjoying reading whats going on and admire your passion and dedication, if only we could clone people as I think WA has some real good people working behind the scenes and promoting something we all enjoy. Lets hope we can all step up and really make something of it before its too late.

title, he was denied of his opportunity when his close friend Rick Sanders turned on him, and sided with his opponent Richter that night forming what has become The Blackest Hour. Jamie didnt lose sight of his one true goal in EPW, despite this major setback he kept aiming for the top and never gave up in trying to finally get the gold.

Photo: Tez Himself One half of the voices of Explosive Pro Wrestling, and the 2009 WPW Commentator of the Year, Mean Dean Olsen brings WPW all the latest on the EPW scene. Welcome to the Mean Scene, for this month Id like to take a look at the current situation involving Jamie Jurah and the Explosive Pro Wrestling championship. When Jamie returned to EPW after a long hiatus which included back surgery, he only had one thing on his mind, winning the EPW Championship. Once he was back and had Rick Sanders helping him along the way, we saw the Jamie of old, having many great matches and everything seemed well. Then at Evolution 2009, the night Jamie finally got himself a shot at the

Photo: Explosive Pro Wrestling Eventually after many hard fought match ups, Jamie got himself another shot at the championship, at Goldrush 3. On that night Jurah was up against the man who previously stopped him from getting the title, as well as the army that was behind him the Blackest Hour. Much like we had seen throughout the career of the master of the Jurahverse, he defied all the odds by finally putting

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 16

a stop to the stranglehold Richter had on the EPW championship. Jamie Jurah was the new Explosive Pro Wrestling champion, something he had trained and fought so hard for, for so many years. Myself and everyone else was looking forward to new era in EPW with a fighting champion, who would carry the title with honor. As soon as the match had been won, Davis Storm made his way to the ring and announced himself as the first challenger for title, both men shook hands as we all looked forward to what would surely be a fantastic battle for the gold. At Evolution 2010, Jamie Jurah who had realised his dream becoming the EPW champion now had to defend his title for the first time against a tough opponent, the Iron Man Davis Storm. The match started off in great way, both men trading moves and holds as we all were treated to a fantastic wrestling match. Jamie has always said hes not the biggest or strongest wrestler around but he has the brains, and he came into this match with a game plan, Jamie started to viciously aim his offence to the Iron Mans leg. The way Jamie was attacking Storm was unlike we had previously seen, Jurah had a defined mean steak in the way he was working over Storms leg and knee. Davis managed to hurt Jurahs shoulder in this match and then we saw Jamie completely shift gears. It became clear that Jamie was not too concerned with winning the contest, but just wanted to leave with the title. Jamie began using every short cut in the book, using the ring posts and anything he could to try and injure Storm, doing anything he could to escape with the belt. In the end the time limit for the match had expired, Jamie had retained the title, but Storm and the EPW fans werent happy, everyone was chanting for 5 more minutes, Jurah wanted no part of it, and told the audience, he had fulfilled his contractual obligations to EPW, and did not need to wrestle for another 5 minutes, and left with his championship.

Photo: Explosive Pro Wrestling

This was unlike what any of us expected of Jamie Jurah, we all thought hed be a fighting champion, he had always been a competitor whod never back down, but it seemed now Jamie didnt care as long as the got to keep his title. Brett Corvus and the EPW board of directors were not happy with the events of Evolution and announced a rematch for the title between Storm & Jurah to take place at Hell or Highwater 2010. Previously I had mentioned about Jamies ability to use his brain and on the night of the rematch Jamie showed everyone just how smart he really is. He came out and announced that his contact as a champion stated that he only had to defend against the number one contender and that was not Davis Storm. JT had won a number one contendership match at evolution, so Brett Corvus said Jamie would defend against him and not Storm. Brett Corvus and Storm were not impressed but Jamie had outsmarted them. Not to let Jamie get away with his cunning dodge of the original match, Corvus announced that Davis Storm would be special guest referee for the contest. From the beginning of the match it was apparent nothing had changed from the previous month, all Jurah wanted to do was leave with the title. Any chance Jamie got hed try to walk away, get counted out or disqualified, taking the easy way out, not even wanting to compete, he didnt care about the honor of the championship, he wanted it for himself. To prevent Jurah using the champions advantage of getting DQd and keeping his title Storm made the match no disqualification and no count out. Jamie was not happy, but again took every short cut he could using low blows and all sorts of dirty tactics. JT fought a fantastic match up but in the end, after all the punishment he had taken, it was two punt style kicks to the head that put JT down for the three count. Jurah had retained in another match where he desperately tried to avoid wrestling a fair match, Davis stormed let Jamie know he was finished with him by nailing him with the eye of the storm. Its a tough time in EPW at the moment, as we have a champion who is so content with keeping the title he doesnt even want to put it on the line, disrespecting everything that title stands for. In the past Jurah has been a fierce competitor who would battle his way through anything standing in his way, now he just wants to be a paper champion and not even let anyone have a chance at taking what he worked so hard for. We have seen in the past people disrespect the EPW championship, it was Bobby Marshall who kept the title in the bag and wouldnt let anyone see it, but now we have a champion using his book smarts to aid his cunning ways of trying to keep the belt. Jamie has stated that he has a law degree and is studying for his second, and he is using that to his full advantage. I believe this is the first time a champion is out

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 17

smarting the board of directors, Brett Corvus is going to have a hard time dealing with Jurahs constant manipulation of the legality of being a companies champion. I have known Jamie for a long time and have not been able to contact him since the events that took place at Evolution 2010, I wanted to get an interview with him for this article but he wont answer my calls. From what I hear no one has been in contact with Jamie, and no one

know what he will do next, he has always been unpredictable, but not like this. Well all have to wait and see what Jamie will do to try and protect himself from losing the title, and knowing how smart he is, he could have that belt for a very long time. Until next time keep supporting local wrestling and stay tuned to epwperth.com

Match of the Night Honours. This came in the form of Sydney and International Wrestling Star Jessie McKay when up against Melbourne and also International Superstar Rate Tank Kelly Skater. This match epitomized the quality of Womens Wrestling and showed there is a place for it right here in WA as real wrestling not T&A. In saying that Awesome Kong plays the anti-christ to that terminology. Trained in Japan and standing 6ft tall & 123kgs - Kong is a Monster in any terms. She hits harder than most males, can play the technician and go with anyone as well as, even scarier, she flies with the best aerial assault mongers.

Photo: World 1/Mana New Horizon Pro Wrestlings Mana, The Polynesian Warrior, brings Westside Pro Wrestling a monthly column in which he gives his thoughts on the current scene or talks with superstar friends from his past in the United States. I am getting really excited about welcoming in my view the Worlds Most Dominant and Best Women Wrestler in the world to our Ranks - Awesome Kong. Initially we began NHPW IndyGurlz Womens Division last year at Hardcore Resurrection 2009. Mercedes Martinez and Bombshell Bo tore the roof down in a great hard hitting match that made most of the locker room of that night cringe hit after hit. Then came a pleasant surprise at Hardcore Resurrection 2010 of two local Australian Women Standouts reigniting the IndyGurlz Division once again by easily garnering

Photo: Wrestling Clothesline I was always ear bashed by other workers about my beliefs in womens wrestling and their place in the Wrestling scene. I for one am a true believer in it, not for the T & A factor but for what it presents to the table of a show. Women are great to look at or in essence very much a required presence on a show.

Photo: Online World of Wrestling Wrestling is always noted as being a live Carnival of action. You keep throwing Tigers at a crowd pretty soon the crowds going to get sick of them. Variety is always key in my way of thinking to at least give the people who like Tigers that chance to maybe see the acrobats, the midgets, the elephants etc. Same with Wrestling, give them matches containing just guys it can become a bit stale very quickly. Also about 30-40% of crowds

are female, 15% of that are little girls not just the ones who want to look at the hot guy with the muscles (yes you know who you are ha-ha). But for those say 15% of girls they have nothing to look up to or really see that can give them their opportunity to emulate. Kong will be facing off with the returning Bombshell Bo and Jessie McKay for the First Ever IndyGurlz (Australian) ChampionshipI truly recommend coming to see Kong on August 20/21, because in my mind if we are unable to ever have her back you will miss seeing the womens equal to Andre / Hulk Hogan of this generation. Perth is luck as we will be the first and only one to have her and I would sure love to see her be welcomes with open arms I think her performance will be unmatched by any international we will have in 2010 visit WA shores. I am so looking forward to the next few projects that IndyGurlz will be coming up with including some TNA Knockouts that will be here very soon besides from Kong and so much more. NHPW will be the place where you will see the best Women workers in the world colliding in our Wrestling ring. I am very excited to see how this pans out as I believe the Independent Wrestling Market here in Perth is yearning for an outlet for Womens action of the highest level. Come see Awesome Kong you will NOT be disappointed.

Mikey Nicholls has been wrestling throughout the world for near on nine years, and is one of the most successful wrestlers to come from the local scene having wrestled for New Japan Pro Wrestling in Tokyo and dark matches for Ring of Honor. WPWs Tez got the opportunity to speak to Mikey about his career not long after Team Murder Death Kill lost the EPW Tag Team Championships in a Tables Match at Hell or Highwater.

WPW: The following show, the first ever Evolution in May 2002, you made an appearance and cut a promo, which unfortunately there were some technical issues with the mic. Even with that the first ever sold out ECW crowd gave you one awesome ovation. Were you surprised with the support the crowd gave you before you made the heel turn? MIKEY: Im so amazed that you can remember that far back. Yeah was pretty surprising, I mean we had only done a few shows so it wasn't like we had build up a huge audience or anything yet. The thing I remember most is the nerves, man i was a such a buildup of nerves, I had such an awesome promo planned out but then of course the microphone doesn't work. In hindsight was probably a good thing the mic didn't work. Ha-ha WPW: Mid 2002 saw you join up with the faction known as The Uprising, which pretty much ran riot through ECW/EPW until the classic street fight with Team EPW at ReAwakening II in 2003. Along the way having some top matches including the Last Man Standing Match with Jimmy Payne. Do you have fond memories of your time in the Uprising? MIKEY: The stuff we did with The Uprising was some of the most fun times of my entire wrestling, dare I say, career. It was so much fun turning up to shows and essentially just hanging out with your friends and doing whatever you wanted. In that time as well I think I grew as not only a wrestler but as a character and my confidence of being out in front of people really grew. The last man standing match with Jimmy was a whole heap of fun, and as far as the Street fight goes, that was one of the most emotional and most fun nights of my life. I think anyone in attendance that night would agree with me when I say that the emotion and drama was off the charts that night. WPW: You were part of the NWA Australia promotion in Adelaide, which drew 1000+ fans to the Thebarton Theatre for its debut show Turning Over Tradition. Unfortunately, the crowds plummeted to less than 100 within three shows and the company folded. What was the experience like wrestling in front of such a big crowd for the first time and being part of a national promotion? MIKEY: It was great honour initially just to be asked to be apart of the show, made me feel like I was getting somewhere in Australia. It was also great to wrestle in front of that many people, to meet a lot of the guys from other states and seeing guys that I definitely looked up to within Australia.

Photo: Explosive Pro Wrestling WPW: You made your debut at the first ever Explosive Coastal Wrestling show Awakening in November 2001 at quite a young age. What was it like making your debut on what has become somewhat of an significant step in WA wrestling and did it feel like something special at the time? MIKEY: I was like 16 years old back then and man did it ever feel like something special. Dreams and aspirations were so much simpler back then, it was almost like I was getting everything I had always wanted. I of course have not watched that show back since then, lol, but no matter how awful the wrestling may have been, it was, what it was and like you said a pretty significant step in WA wrestling WPW: You were part of the very first ECW Championship match, a Four Way Match with Davis Storm, Jimmy Payne and FN Carnage at Redemption in January 2002, where things went a little wrong. Was there ever any thought of you giving wrestling away at that point and what did you think of the publicity it got it in the major papers like The West Australian? MIKEY: Nah, there was never a thought of giving wrestling away. I guess its like they say, no publicity is bad publicity right.

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 20

WPW: 2004 was quite a big year for you. Feuding with Azazal after the Uprising break up, culminating with a Match of the Year Chain Match, taking on Davis Storm in a couple of number one contenders matches, finally winning the EPW Championship in a triple threat match with then champion, Davis Storm and FN Carnage. What was it like winning the title for the very first time at Re-Awakening III? MIKEY: 2004-05 was such a rollercoaster time for me both in and out of wrestling and I think a lot of that showed in the way that I wrestled and the matches that I had. Im so proud of my chain match with Azazal and was so happy when it was voted match of the year. Then it all kinda came together in the triple threat match at RA when I won the belt for the first time. I like to think that I had a great first run without the belt and had some pretty memorable matches. WPW: You held the title until Evolution 2005 before Richter cashed in his title shot after you had a hard fought Fatal Four Way with Jimmy Payne, Havok and Jag. You got your rematch at Dirty Deeds, which was the first ever show at the Alma Venville Centre, which was a Street Fight. You climbed up a wall and did a dive off the balcony which was an awesome thing to see. Was that a spur of the moment thing or had you had that idea in mind as soon as you saw the building? MIKEY: Ha-ha, that was most definitely the first thing I thought of when I saw that building. It was the first show we had done in a new venue so I figured I was in a situation to make it as memorable as possible. WPW: You made your first overseas trip in late 2005 to SoCal training and wrestling out of the Inoki Dojo with Jag Hartley Jackson and Davis Storm. What was the first overseas experience like for you training with guys like Fergal Devitt and Karl Anderson? MIKEY: It was always a dream of mine to train at the Inoki Dojo and it really just sorta happened out of nowhere. I look back on that time now as the most fun and also the most intense time in my life. I made some great friends out of it and we were all kinda going through the same thing together you know, so it made it even better. The first overseas experience was definitely an eye opener for me to how the rest of the wrestling world works. Made me realise we have it pretty good here in Perth. WPW: Returning to Perth in February 2006, you dropped the EPW Championship to Havok at Stand & Deliver in March, before returning to the States. Your second tour succeeding your first as you along with Karl Anderson challenged Alex Koslov for the NWA Heritage Championship and Rocky Romero for the CMLL Championship in a Two out of Three

Falls Match. Was the push you received during this tour where you felt like you could make a name for yourself on the SoCal Indy scene? MIKEY: It wasn't so much that I thought I could make a name for myself it was more the fact that I was so shocked and excited to be in the same ring as those guys. The triple threat match was a whole lot of fun and it was such an honour to be selected to wrestle someone who I have the utmost respect for and definitely someone I look up to in Rocky. I also think that the 2 out of 3 falls match took me to a whole new level with wrestling. It was like I had to bring myself up to his level, which I still maintain is the best way to better yourself as a wrestler. Train and wrestle with people who are better than you and you will always be forced to come up to their level. Because if they are any good they sure as hell wont get dragged down to yours!

Photo: New Japan Pro Wrestling WPW: In what is an awesome achievement, yourself along with Hartley Jackson were the first ever Australians to compete for New Japan Pro Wrestling, taking part in a Tag Match against Minoru & Hirooki Goto in Tokyo Korakuen Hall. Did it get overwhelming or did you feel like it was just another step forward in the career of Mikey Nicholls and would you like to go back? MIKEY: Man was it ever overwhelming. I don't think I have ever been so nervous in my entire life. Trying to get everything together in a different country, with people who don't speak the same language man it was a trip. At the time it was a huge step forward for me and it kinda disappoints me a little that I didn't capitalise on it more, but cant dwell in the past. I would give anything to go back. WPW: September 7, 2007 at EWFs Gold Standard, you became the first ever Western

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 21

Australian wrestler to win a title in the United States when you defeated then champion Karl Anderson and Ryan Taylor in a 30 Minute Triple Threat Ironman match to become the new EWF American Champion. MIKEY: It felt real good to hold some gold in the states. Definitely made me feel like I was on the right track. I also think I had a couple really good matches while I was the champ, made me a lot more confident with my wrestling. WPW: 2009 saw you make a change of scenery moving from the SoCal scene to Ohio to wrestle for the Northern Wrestling Federation and during the nine month stay you got to make your debut for Ring of Honor in a few Dark Matches. What was that experience like? MIKEY: It was a real surreal experience. For the longest time I had, like most people, had been watching ROH stuff and wishing I was there, well all of a sudden here it was right in front of me. The whole atmosphere was great, I met some great guys and also had some real solid matches. WPW: Returning to EPW in late 2009, you were voted by the fans as the partner for Shane Haste to take on Slex and Carlo Cannon for the EPW Tag Team Championships at Re-Awakening 8. You won the titles in a brutal Ladder Match and defended them in some great matches before losing them just recently in a Tables Match. What is your next goal in EPW? MIKEY: Im not sure yet. I was having a whole lot of fun doing the tag stuff with Shane and I think that we had a pretty memorable run. Its been a while since I held the EPW title, maybe I will have a go and try my luck at that. I think there is still a lot of fire left inside Mikey Nicholls.

Photo: Explosive Pro Wrestling WPW: Do you have plans to return to the States in 2010-2011 and where would you like to go, back to SoCal or Ohio? MIKEY: I don't know man, Im never one to make definite plans, I prefer to just take it as it comes and see what happens. I will go back to the states for sure, not sure how or when, but it will happen. WPW: What does Mikey Nicholls hope to do in the wrestling business before he retires? MIKEY: I guess just keep having fun and keep bettering myself. Once that enjoyment goes its kinda hard to keep motivated and also becomes hard to keep justifying to yourself why you do it you know. But I guess as long as Im moving forward and having fun, I cant complain too much. WPW: Thank you for speaking to Westside Pro Wrestling Mikey.
