Alternatives Presented
Alternatives to be evaluated in the environmental impact statement include No-Build and Build alternatives. The No-Build alternative leaves the system as it currently exists and serves as a base alternative for comparison. The Build alternatives presented tonight are shown below.

SPOT IMPROVEMENT
Parallel Entrance/Exit Ramps - Provides longer transition lengths to accommodate todays design standards.
N
Proximity of Port Washington Rd Inadequate ramp storage High traffic volumes/congestion Substandard accel/decel distance
RECONSTRUCTION
Diamond Interchange - Standard interchange will increase ramp length to todays design standards. It moves the northbound ramp intersection further away from Port Washington Road.
N
Proximity of Port Washington Rd Inadequate ramp storage High traffic volumes/congestion Substandard accel/decel distance
Split Diamond Interchange - Using Green Tree Road to the south, the interchange is split with the northbound off and southbound on ramps at Green Tree Road and the northbound on and southbound off ramps at Good Hope Road. This alternative distributes the high volumes of traffic between two locations instead of one enabling the diamond interchange configuration to operate more efficiently.
N
Proximity of Port Washington Rd Inadequate ramp storage High traffic volumes/congestion Substandard accel/decel distance
Single Point Interchange - The northbound and southbound ramp intersections are brought to one point in the center of the bridge over I-43. This increases the distance from Port Washington Road. It also creates only one intersection capable of handling higher volumes of traffic.
N
Proximity of Port Washington Rd Inadequate ramp storage High traffic volumes/congestion Substandard accel/decel distance
Horseshoe Interchange - Northbound and southbound entrance ramps are combined. Northbound and southbound traffic is split on the ramp allowing for a longer weave section.

Whats Next
Alternatives will be refined based on comments received from this public meeting and ongoing traffic analysis and engineering. Each alternative will then be evaluated based on comments received, impacts, and on how well it meets the purpose and need for this study. The alternatives will be compared to determine which provide the most benefit while minimizing impacts. Intersections will be evaluated for signals or roundabouts. The retained alternatives will be presented at the third public information meeting in late summer 2013. A recommended alternative will then be presented in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement followed by a Public Hearing in early 2014 for your additional input.
*Interchange alternatives are compatible with four-lane and six-lane I-43 mainline alternatives.
