October 25-31, 2012

PRAY FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA AND HIS ADMINISTRATION

The Transportation Security Administration is removing full-body x-ray scanners from major U.S. airports, sending them to less busy facilities, and replacing them with smaller, less invasive, cartoon-figured, faster ones. The Department of Energy has confirmed that THE oldest double-shell tank at the Hanford nuclear facility is leaking radioactive and hazardous chemical waste from its inner shell, mounting a review of other nuclear locations. Pray for the agencies and regulatory bodies of the government who are concerned with human safety.

PRAY FOR OUR CONGRESSONAL LEADERS

Emotionally embattled Representative Jesse Jackson, Jr. (Illinois) is back at the Mayo Clinic for follow-up evaluations, and a fellow lawmaker stated bluntly that it is unclear whether he will be able to return to Congress. Representative Adam Smith (Washington) led a group of five House members to Afghanistan where they concluded that steady progress is being made despite negative reports of increased insider attacks on our Forces there. Pray for the health and well-being of Congressman Jackson, and for the wisdom and comfort of his family.

PRAY FOR OUR JUDICIARY

On October 29 the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments on whether an individual in the U.S. can sell or lend a used product made in another country without the permission of the copyright holder. The Seventh Court of Appeals said Indiana cannot withhold Medicaid funding from the local Planned Parenthood affiliate because of its clinic-provided abortion services. Pray for wisdom for our courts on every level as they deal with individual rights and responsibilities.

PRAY FOR THESE NATIONAL LEADERS IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK:

James R. Clapper, Director of National Intelligence. Elijah Cummings, United States Representative from Maryland. Justice Ronald D. Castille, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. Major Eric Doc Schultz, United States Air Force Pilot.

OTHER PRAYER CONCERNS:

WARS AND TERRORISM
Since 2001, more U.S. soldiers have killed themselves than have been killed in the war in Afghanistan, leaving a true death toll from the war at more than twice what the Pentagon has stated. Sectarian violence is escalating in Iraq where bomb blasts and mortars killed at least 9 people and wounded 28 more in Shiite districts of Baghdad just days before the Islamic Eid religious festival. Pray about the nations and the people that are left behind as U.S. and NATO troops withdraw from war zones.

FOREIGN INTERESTS AND CONFLICTS

The U.S. is urging Iraq to cease cooperating with Iran who for months have been supplying Syria with arms by utilizing Iraqi air space, and now are crossing Iraq through convoys on the ground, according to an Iraqi official. South Korean police unsuccessfully tried to stop a civic group from sending pro-democracy leaflets, candy and socks across the border by balloon after North Korea threatened a merciless military strike. Pray about the levels of anger and greed for power that control despots across the world.

THE ECONOMY
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke says hell stoke the economy until the jobs market recovers substantially including buying $40 billion of mortgage-backed securities a month for an indefinite period. Gasoline prices fell on speculation that refinery production will increase boosting supplies as they switch to the winter blend of fuels. Prices may go down as much as 30 to 50 cents per gallon, depending on regional supply levels. Pray about the U.S. economy, and for the millions who remain unemployed and on federal assistance.

ISRAEL AND THE MIDDLE EAST

Palestinians fired dozens of rockets into Israel from Gaza and an Israeli air strike killed a militant as a surge of violence erupted on the Israel-Gaza frontier. Hamas has claimed some responsibility for the rockets and mortars. Iran said it would stop oil exports if pressure from Western sanctions continued, but also said it had a Plan B contingency strategy to survive without oil revenue. Oil accounts for 24 percent of Iranian revenue. Pray for the innocents who are caught up in fighting between political factions in Israel.

HEALTH CARE
The U.S. Justice Departments civil fraud division is investigating claims that CVS Caremark wrongfully refilled prescriptions billing insurers in the Medicare program. CVS is the largest provider of prescription drugs in the nation. The worlds largest manufacturer of cancer medications, Roche, is facing an infringement procedure from Europes top drug regulator for failing to properly report tens of thousands of potential drug side effects. Pray for greater integrity in the pharmaceutical industry, from manufacturer to compounder to dispenser. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. Proverbs 9:10
