Shawangunk Wine Trail Announces Two New Members

Marlboro, NY, February 17, 2009 – The Shawangunk Wine Trail continues to expand
with the addition of two wineries to the wine trail. Palaia Vineyards in Highland Mills,
New York and Brimstone Hill Vineyards in Pine Bush, New York. They will join the trail
kicking off the season with the Pasta Primo – Vino April 18 & 19, 2009.
Jan Palaggi, owner of Palaia Vineyards is thrilled to be a part of the Shawangunk Wine
Trail. “We are right in between the Northern End and the Southern End of the trail. We
will be a nice addition for the path of the trail,” said Jan. Palaia produces a variety of
wines from vinifera grapes such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Chardonnay to hybrid
varietals, DeChaunac, and Traminette to Mead made with local clover honey.
Dick Eldridge owner of Brimstone Hill Vineyards has been a past member of the
Shawangunk Wine Trail. Two years ago, he took a leave of absence from the wine trail
and is glad to be back. Brimstone Hill produces vinifera varieties like Chardonnay,
Cabernet Franc and hybrid varietals like Seyval, Noiret and Foch.
The wineries on the Shawangunk Wine Trail will kick off the season April 18 and 19th
with Pasta Primo Vino. This is a wonderful way to be introduced to all the eleven
wineries on the Shawangunk Wine Trail. Tickets for this event are $20 plus tax and
include wine tasting and pasta sampling at each winery.
The Shawangunk Wine Trail offers the most diversity of any wine trail. It is home to
the nation’s oldest continuously operated winery and America’s oldest vineyard. Wine
produced in this region range from dry complex wines, to soft fruity wines, and sparkling
wines. The Shawangunk Wine Trail 11 member wineries from New Paltz to Warwick
are: Adair Vineyards, New Paltz NY; Benmarl Vineyards, Glorie Farm Winery and
Stoutridge Vineyard, Marlboro NY; Whitecliff Vineyards, Gardiner NY; Baldwin
Vineyards and Brimstone Hill Vineyards, Pine Bush NY; Brotherhood Winery,
Washingtonville NY; Applewood Winery, and Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery,
Warwick NY and Palaia Vineyards in Highland Mills, NY
The Shawangunk Wine Trail is the closest wine trail to New York City, Westchester,
Albany, Bergen County NJ, and Connecticut. It is conveniently located 85 miles north of
New York City, 72 miles south of Albany and 40 miles west of Danbury CT. The
Shawangunk Wine Trail is easily accessible by the New York State Thruway at Exits 16,
17 and 18; from Route 17 at Exit 119 and I84 West – 9W North and Union Avenue Exit.
