ABSTRACT Now a day's every system is automated in order to face new challenges. In the present days Automated systems have less manual operations, flexibility, reliability and accurate. Due to this demand every field prefers automated control systems. Especially in the field of electronics automated systems are giving good performance. Some times the term automation means with less intervention of human. One of the severe problems faced with old traffic light systems is that it has no information about the neighboring traffic light systems. This results in traffic stopping at each junction. In this project we propose to have a network of all traffic lights under the control of an intelligent algorithm that ensures smooth traffic flow. When one traffic light gives green signal, the information is broadcast to all neibhouring traffic signals. Each traffic signal acts as a node and calculates approximately the time taken by vehicles coming towards it. It adjusts its signals such that by the time vehicles reach the traffic signal there is already a green signal this ensures that the vehicles need not stop at the traffic signal. This also reduces the emissions. It is a well known fact that pollution is at its peak when the vehicles are stooped and waiting at the traffic signals.

This project uses regulated 5v, 500mA power supply. 7805, a three terminal voltage regulator is used for voltage regulation. Bridge type full wave rectifier is used to rectify the ac output of secondary of 230/12v step down transformer.
