Application

Packet D raft Due: 2.15 | Final Due: 2.18

Description: Just like any new capitalist document the application for a job must be quick and
customized. Your goal in this assignment, then, is to: 1. Job Call Analyses: Find two (somewhat different) job calls for a job that you might want to apply to in the future and analyze them as weve done with the job calls in class. Think: what is this company looking for, what is this companys corporate culture like, what are the buzzwords they use, etc. Spend about 1-page a piece analyzing these job calls and discussing how both your resume and cover letter respond to them in specific ways. You will turn in the job call with these 2 analyses. 2. Rsums: Prepare a 1-page customized rsum for each job call. Weve talked about how this customization should occurthink about what information to put in the resume and which to leave off, think about the order of that information depending on what the job call asks for, think about using synonyms for the key words/core values that the company presents itself as holding. 3. Cover Letters: Prepare a 1-page customized cover letter for each job call. Again, weve talked in class about what a cover letter should and should not include. The goal of the cover letter should be to show how you and your past experiences can benefit the company you are applying to. Each job call will ask for different experiences so you need to be able to spin yourself to fit those specific experiences.

Each analysis shows some extra information that the applicant uncovered on the companys website that were applied somewhere in the resume and cover letter.

____Cover Letter (40 points)

Each cover letter follows the formatting and content rules listed in the Kolin textbook (179-186) Each cover letter is personal and specific, describing what youve specifically done and what skills youve specifically developed in the past that might benefit the company your applying to in the future. Each cover letter responds to the specific questions and qualifications the job call asks/lists. Each cover letter builds an image/ethos of the applicant as active and interesting through showing the applicant doing things. Each cover letter has some kind of stylistic element to itapplies a couple points of interesting punctuation, sentence structure, and vocabularly that developes the applicant as intelligent and unique without making them look like theyre adding style randomly (always remember sprezzatura).
