The Busy Bee

Vol. 2, Issue 6========================================================February 11, 2013 ----------- On the Home Front -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Fuel Fumes Feed Nauseous Headaches Lompoc, Calif. It had been an occasional occurrence since the 5th Annual Jeffs Fun Run: a faulty fuel pump forced periodic rest breaks when driving the 1985 Mazda RX-7 in stop and go traffic. Tired of this and other problems, the wife opted to spend $324.09 on a fuel pump, fuel filter, 4 feet of fuel hoses, a distributor cap, and some door gaskets... because they looked a little cracked. While the whole point of this particular car was to provide the wife with a means of learning applied engineering skills for practical use in the amateur racing, she has yet to develop certain, more useful traits, such as using large hammers to fix small problems. Case in point, while The Busy Bee was busy mowing the lawn with the trusting reel mower, the wife was attempting to replace the door gaskets. After the hour it took to mow the lawn, The Busy Bee found the wife still attempting to complete the removal of the first door gasket. Three minutes of prying with pliers and screwdriver resulted in a somewhat happier but still frustrated wife. A similar situation occurred when the wife attempted to remove the fuel filter and fuel pump. Something about spring-tension hose clamps and pliers just didnt seem to combine to a proper solution; after only 2 minutes of trying, the wife opted to have The Busy Bee remove the filter, pump and hoses for her. When the first hoses were removed, gravity did its work and the fuel bled all over his arms. The fumes were mighty tasty, and the wife couldnt figure out why she had a nauseous headache about 2 hours later. Thankfully, as a man, The Busy Bee opted not to worry about fuel spills nor contingency plans for preventing fuel spills; thus providing stories and learning opportunities for the wife.
