February 15, 2013 Dear Cuba Township Resident, Please join us on April 9 in voting to reelect Cuba Township Roads Commissioner Tom Gooch. We are all supporting Tom for simple, but important, reasons: Tom Gooch is someone who is accountable, who learns from his mistakes and who fights for the hardworking taxpayers of Cuba Township. He has compiled an impressive track record of results and understands the importance of cooperation and working together. In short, Tom Gooch is a man who gets things done and whose word is his bond. Tom Gooch puts taxpayers first. He understands that Township government has a responsibility to spend your tax dollars as carefully as you would Tom knows that its your money. As a result, he has not only provided cost-effective and efficient snow plowing, drainage and road maintenance and repair services (less expensively than any of our communities could do on our own), he has created such high value programs as the Township Road Districts popular electronics recycling and free mulch & firewood programs. In addition, Tom has privately researched salt usage on our roads and reduced per lane mile salt distribution by more than 50% during his tenure! At a time when so many things are broken in our state, Tom Gooch has shown that government can operate honestly, efficiently and effectively. Over the past decade, Tom has continuously looked for ways to minimize the cost of operating the Cuba Township Road District and the regional public works system he has created to minimize the financial burden on the Villages in the township. He has developed a system for rehabilitating older equipment, building-out new equipment in-house, and works consistently to obtain grant money where-ever possible. Politics being what it is these days, we know that there are some people who will say almost anything to defeat Tom and misrepresent his record. Such things are the unfortunate and unwelcome result of the tiresome ugliness that has made government at the federal and state level unworkable and poisonous but which some may now try to bring to the local level in Cuba Township. As local leaders accountable for balancing budgets and getting things done for our communities every day, we want you to know that we support Tom as the best candidate to manage our Townships Roads program for the next 4 years and that we agree with Robert Miller, President of the Northern Illinois Highway Commissioners Association, who has said "Tom is a nice guy who is easy to get along with ... he is a consummate professional and a highly experienced innovator."
