ABSTRACT Syukriatil Fitriyah: The Correlation Between The Students Ability On Learning Parts Of Speech And Their Learning Achievement In Writing Text At The Second Year On Junior High School At SMP Yabujah Segeran Kidul Juntinyuat Indramayu.

Before doing a research, the researcher does an observation first. The researcher interviews an English teacher who teaches at class VIII, about the teaching and learning process, especially grammar material. From the result of interview, it can be concluded that there are the difficulties for students in applying the first step in grammar material, especially in parts of speech. This case is interesting for the researcher to try to increase the mastering students grammar, and then try to measure their writing text. Learning about parts of speech is the first step in grammar study just as learning the letters of the alphabet is the first step for being able to read and write. From learning parts of speech we begin to understand the useful or the function of words that are joined together to make meaningful communication. In writing, parts of speech are very important because they have each of the function in forming phrase, clause, or sentence. So that, it can help the students writing to be correct. The techniques of collecting data in this research consist of observation, formative test and written test, and interview. The population in this research is class VIII-A and VIII-B as many as forty (40) students, at SMP Yabujah Segeran Kidul Juntinyuat Indramayu. Based on the result from formative and written test, it can be got as many as 10% from the sample or four (10) of the students gain the score 7. It means the score is high. Then 42.5% from the sample or seventeen (17) of students gain the score is 5.5 6.9. It means the score is average. And the students achievement is categorized good, because as many as 55% from the sample or ten (22) students get the score 5.0 6.4. It means the score is average. Based on the test of correlation, there is high correlation between the students ability on learning parts of speech and their learning achievement in writing text at the second year of junior high school at SMP Yabujah Segeran Kidul Juntinyuat Indramayu. It can be seen from the result Pearson Product Moment formula, which coefficient correlation is 0.73. It means that there is high correlation between the students ability on learning parts of speech and their learning achievement in writing text.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY The writers name is Syukriatil Fitriyah. She was born on May 31st, 1987 in Cirebon. Her fathers name is Ahmad Anas and her mothers name is Muniroh. She is the fifth child of six children. She has three old sisters; they are Iis Insiati F.Z., Ilah Aqilah, and Sunni Yati, one old brother; he is Muhammad Subhan Subhi and the last is one young sister; she is Mamlahah Nur Sayyidah. In chronological order of education, the writer passed from the Islamic Elementary School (MI Wathoniyah) Mertapada Kulon Astanajapura Cirebon in 1999. In 2002, she passed from the Islamic Junior High School MTs.AI Mertapada Kulon Astanajapura Cirebon. Furthermore, she studied in the Islamic Senior High School MAAI Mertapada Kulon Astanajapura Cirebon and finished in 2005. She continued her study to The State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Syekh Nurjati Cirebon up to now.
