Narrative
Narrative is the way films are put together to an audience. Therefore when analysing narrative we analyse the construction of the story. For example; the way it has been put together and not the story itself. Analysis being Linear, Circular and Episodic narrative.

Linear Narrative
A linear narrative development is one which a film changes or progresses straight from one stage to another and has a starting point and an ending point, all happens in order. Linear is normally structured told with a beginning, meddle and ending at the end. This can be used in relation to Disney stories or films or books that have a logical ending where everything has been come to a conclusion. Must stories are told in this way because it is the easiest to understand.

Harry Potter by Joanne Rowling is linear. This is because the story starts from the very beginning and all happens in order with a middle and an ending.

Madagascar by DreamWorks animation is a Linear. This is because the story starts from Cinderella is a Linear. This is the beginning and all because the story starts from happens in order with a the beginning and all middle and an ending. happens in order with a middle and an ending.

A Circular narrative development is one which a film has certain plot points repeated. At it most basic levels, a circular narrative is one that ends where it began, sometimes it also starts from the end and flashes back to the beginning, demonstrated through settings, dialogue and theme. This style has a tradition plot structure - exposition, rising action, falling action and resolution. However, in a circular narrative, the exposition, where we see fixed perspective of how things are before the story starts, and the resolution, which concludes the story, must mirror one another, thus completing the circle. For example Life of PI and TITANIC starting from and ending and flashing back until comes back to the beginning. Making a circle.

Circular Narrative

Episodic Narrative
Episodic Narrative development is one which a film is narrative composed of loosely connected incidents, each one more or less self-contained, often connected by a central character or characters. In fact, the chapter or stories could be shuffled around and placed in different order if desired because there is no overall beginning, middle, and end to the story as a whole. In some cases there may be a sense of time passing throughout the scenes, as if the character is growing or changing through each successive chapter or story. Or perhaps the years are passing by for a character or place and we see the seasons of change in the background of the main plot. For example; Batman consists different stories in only one film.
