WHAT IS JOB ? According to the encyclopedia of psychology," Job is a task, an occupational activity performed in return for a monetary reward. The Oxford dictionary define job as, "As small definite piece of work done in a way of one's special occupation". The Job can also be interpreted in terms of position. Accordingly, "A job is a group of similar positions in a single plant business establishment, institution or other work place." An occupation is a group of similar jobs found in several establishments. WHAT IS SATISFACTION ? Satisfaction is a word, which is difficult to define. Webster's encyclopedia dictionary of English language define it as: The act of satisfaction or state of being satisfied, contentment in Possession and enjoyment and to satisfy is to grant fully the wants, wishes or desires of, to supply to the full extent with what is wished for. It is the combination of these two words.

Definitions of job satisfaction The feelings or affective response someone experiences in a job role. Some researchers argue that it is possible to capture the level of job satisfaction with one question. Others suggest we can have strong negative feelings about one aspect of
34

our job (e.g.

(e.g. pay) but feel positive about other facts of it colleagues).

A person's general attitude towards their job. Job satisfaction is a term used to describe how content an individual is with their job. It is a relatively recent term since in previous centuries the jobs available to a particular person were often predetermined by their parent's occupation.

Meaning of Job Satisfaction Job satisfaction is in regard to one's feelings or state-of-mind regarding the nature of their work. Job satisfaction can be influenced by a variety of factors, e.g., the quality of one's relationship with their supervisor, the quality of the physical environment in which they work, degree of fulfillment in their work, etc To my knowledge, there is no strong acceptance among researchers, consultants, etc., that increased job satisfaction produces improve job performance -- in fact, improved job satisfaction can sometimes decrease job performance. For example, you could let sometime sit around all day and do nothing. That may make them more satisfied with their "work" in the short run, but their performance certainly come to stagnation.

35

Job satisfaction and work-related stress are important determinants of physician retention and turnover, and may affect the performance of the National Health Service (NHS) Scotland. The extent to which general practitioners (GPs) are satisfied with their job and experience stress at work also influence patient satisfaction and compliance. A first aim of the study is to describe job satisfaction, pressures at work, and intentions to quit of Scottish GPs. A second aim is to examine how GP job satisfaction, stress, and intentions to quit vary with demographic, job, and practice characteristics. Information on GP job satisfaction and stress may assist policy makers in devising incentives to encourage GP recruitment and retention. The data compiled on constituents' job satisfaction in several ways. One means has been to ask survey respondents to rate their overall level of job satisfaction. In the 2001 Omnibus Survey, respondents were asked to rate their satisfaction relative to three years before. Response options were as follows: Not in same type of facility as three years ago Extremely dissatisfied compared to three years ago Somewhat dissatisfied compared to three years ago Not much difference Somewhat more satisfied compared to three years ago Extremely satisfied compared to three years ago.

36

In presenting the results for this question, Options 5 and 6 are combined as "satisfied" and Options 2 and 3 are combined as "dissatisfied." Overall, 27% of respondents were not in the same type of facility as three years before. The Speech-Language Pathology Healthcare Survey in 2002 posed the same question about levels of job satisfaction. Results were analyzed for all health.

Care settings combined and by various settings (general medical hospital, rehabilitation hospital, pediatric hospital, skilled nursing facility, home health, outpatient or speech/hearing clinic, or other). Results for all settings combined showed that 18% of respondents were not working in the same type of facility as three years before. Of the remaining respondents, essentially equivalent numbers reported being "satisfied" (25%) as did those answering "dissatisfied" (26%) relative to three years ago. An examination of the results by specific settings revealed notable differences in job satisfaction ratings. SLPs working in outpatient or speech/hearing clinics reported the highest levels of satisfaction (34%) and the lowest levels of dissatisfaction (21%) relative to three years earlier. In contrast, those working in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) indicated much lower levels of satisfaction (22%) and higher levels of dissatisfaction (43%). Results for other health care settings fell between these two extremes.
37

The survey had a follow-up question seeking reasons for dissatisfaction. For SLPs across all health care settings, the major factors contributing to dissatisfaction were volume of paperwork (57%), involuntary reduction in salary or benefits (35%), involuntary increase in caseload (32%), and involuntary increase in number of sites served (28%). The factors contributing to dissatisfaction varied across settings, with volume of paperwork rated highest in pediatric hospitals (63%), involuntary reduction in salary or benefits highest in SNFs (58%), involuntary increase in caseload highest in rehabilitation hospitals (60%), and involuntary increase in number of sites served highest in SNFs (54%) A different aspect of job satisfaction was examined in the 2003 Omnibus Survey. Respondents were asked to pick their top three factors contributing to job satisfaction from a list of 10 potential factors. For both professions combined, type of client/work setting was the option selected most often, followed by pay and by collaborative relationships with others. The top three factors cited differed by profession. Audiologists listed pay as most important, followed by type of client/work setting and by challenging work environment. Job satisfaction factor ratings for the 2003 Omnibus Survey were also examined by age and gender. Gender differences were also noted. Rankings for the females were the same as for the total, likely due to the preponderance of females in the professions. Males gave noticeably different rankings for several factors. Pay ranked first, and challenging work environment and opportunities for advancement
38

ranked above those factors for females. In contrast, males ranked a flexible schedule and collaborative relationship with others lower than did females.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Definition of Research Methodology:
41

"Research Methodology is the description, explanation and justification of various methods of conducting research".

This part of the project explains the research methodology of the study. It describes the data collection methods, the sampling plan, the tools of investigation, planning of questionnaire and the limitation of study. The study required to be collected from two sourcesPrimary Data and Secondary Data. Primary data is data which is collected by person/investigator himself. It is basically first hand data. There are various methods under the primary data which are used to collect current information like observation, interview and questionnaire. Secondary data is collected by any other person, it is an existing data. This can be collected from various sources like Journals, Magazines, books, newspapers etc. Determination of Population: In view of the fact this was a survey which is completed with limited period of time and limited sources, present study was restricted to Cremica industry.

DATA COLLECTION
In this research there are two types of data collection:-

42

1. Primary data 2. Secondary data

1. Primary Data: - The collection of data is through primary data.

The data is collected through questionnaire. The data is also collected by observation.

2. Secondary Data: In this search, there is also secondary data that is collected through previous research.

Collection of data: A questionnaire was designed in order to obtain answers pertinent to the objective of research. A structured interview schedule was framed for collecting the data. It contained both open and close ended questions. Sequencing of questionnaire was decided according to the requirement of study. Initially general questions were asked and later questions regarding the objective of study were asked. Analysis of data:

43

For the purpose of analysis, the statistical tool like mean, average and percentages are used. The likert scaling system consisting of five categories of agreements and disagreements was applied to each item. Each item could be replied by checking any of the five answers: "Strongly Agreed, Agreed, Undecided, Disagreed, Strongly disagreed". The items were selected in such a way the satisfied scale indicates by 'strongly agreed' and 'disagree' for the other half. The neutral responses were 'undecided'.

Research design: - The task of defining the research problem is the preparation of the design of the research project popularly known as the research design. Decision regarding what, where, when, how much, by what means concerning a research design.

Sample design:Sample size: -The sample size in this research is of 100 workers. 50 female workers and 50 male workers.

Sample area: - The sample area in this research is the factory of the Mrs. Bectors Food Specialities Ltd.
