Power Plant Operators and Maintenance Courses

Pratt & Whitney Power Systems Customer Training Team delivers a focused learning experience for your employees, either in our training center located in East Harford, CT or at your designated facility. Our curriculum blends classroom instruction using electronic media delivery with the hands-on experience needed to give the best learning experience to our customers. PWPS Customer Training courses range from a three-day General Familiarization to a ten-day Operator and Maintenance course. In addition, we can provide customized courses from our standard offering to meet your specific needs.

Pre-Commissioning Training (Contract training): PWPS offers a comprehensive FT8 General Familiarization course that is suitable for a wide variety of employees. Whether an executive looking for general knowledge on gas turbines, or an experienced gas turbine operator, the General Familiarization Course offers an excellent introduction to the FT8 Power Plant. This course can be offered either as a 3 or 5-day course based on the customer need. See attached syllabus for additional details.

Commissioning Phase Training (On the Job Training): The Operator Familiarization & Maintenance Practices courses provide in depth review of Operating Instructions for the FT8 Power Plant and Maintenance Practices. Also the commissioning phase of the project presents an ideal training situation for your employees. PWPS encourages our customers to work alongside our project installation teams during key phases of the project. This offers an opportunity for in-depth working knowledge of the FT8 and related systems. In addition, the start-up and commissioning phase provides a unique opportunity to learn in a controlled environment.

FT8 General Familiarization


This course is an introductory level curriculum designed to familiarize the student on basic turbine theory, FT8 design, Aero derivative functionality and system inter-relations as it pertains to the FT8 power plant. Customer is required to provide trainees who have had prior gas turbine or related training and familiarization with industry terms, technology and general maintenance procedures. Training courses are subject to the qualifications and caveats noted in the exhibit. Who Should Attend: Personnel requiring general familiarization with the FT8 package, specifically in the areas of routine maintenance, on-site repair, operations, and performance. This can include management, engineering and maintenance personnel. 3 to 5 Days 3 to 12 Students

FT8 Operator Familiarization


This course is an introductory level curriculum designed to familiarize the student on basic turbine theory, FT8 design, FT8 Operating and Maintenance principles associated with the engine and ancillary equipment. This course is normally combined with the General Familiarization course, but is modularized for distribution. Hands-on operation of equipment is not normally within the scope of this training. Customer is required to provide trainees who have had prior gas turbine or related training and familiarization with industry terms, technology and general maintenance procedures. Training courses are subject to the qualifications and caveats noted in the exhibit. Who Should Attend: Course Length: Class Size: Course Objectives:

FT8 Maintenance Practices


This is an advanced level training course designed for the technical and engineering staff of an FT8 facility. This course provides instruction of basic (non-depot level) maintenance practices and will assist plant personnel in planning and scheduling maintenance activities. Customer is required to provide trainees who have had prior gas turbine or related training and familiarization with industry terms, technology and general maintenance procedures. Training courses are subject to the qualifications and caveats noted in the exhibit. Who Should Attend: Course Length: Class Size: Course Objectives: o To Introduce Students To The FT8 Power Plant Maintenance Concepts o To Familiarize The Student Various Maintenance Activities And Required Periodicities o To Familiarize The Student With The Use Of Borescope Procedures o To Use Plant Tools And Software To Perform Basic Maintenance Actions Such As Calibrations And Inspections.
