E-Trans Corporations goal is to reduce the number of car crashes in the city of Torrance. We want to solve this problem by installing dynamic speed bumps and raised road reflectors near major intersections in order to stop speeding drivers from causing accidents. A dynamic speed bump allows cars going at or below a set speed to be unaffected, while cars moving above that speed will be forced to decelerate. Raised road reflectors light up to alert drivers from swerving into the other lanes and help drivers see the upcoming intersection. In 2009, there have been over 10.8 million car accidents in the U.S. and over 30,000 fatalities related to car crashes. The number of children in Torrance is increasing. In the next ten years it is predicted that there will be over 20,000 new drivers in Torrance. To start, we wish to test our solution on Hawthorne Boulevard if we gain the citys approval. Decano Industries in Mexico is already developing working, affordable dynamic speed bumps, which they have tested with great success. We believe that these modifications to the roads will greatly reduce the number of car crashes in Torrance and save people time, money, and their lives. If this solution proves successful, we hope to implement it in California, or even the entire U.S.
