Review of Literature

Work-life balance is a persons control over the conditions in their workplace. It is accomplished when an individual feels dually satisfied about their personal life and their paid occupation. The work-life balance strategy offers a variety of means to reduce stress levels and increase job satisfaction in the employee while enhancing business benefits for the employer.

According to Bratton and Gold (2003) Work Life Balance as the need to balance work and leisure/family activities. The leisure activities might include such things as the desire to travel, be involved in community activities and the need to care for older relatives. According to Scholaris & Marks (2004) Work-life balance has important consequences for employee attitudes towards their organizations as well as for the lives of employees. According to Kalliath (2008) The extent to which an individual is engaged in and equally satisfied with his or her work role and family role.

According to Dundas (2008) Work-life balance is about effectively managing the juggling act between paid work and all other activities that are important to people such as family, community activities, voluntary work, personal development and leisure and recreation.

According to Greenhaus & Powell 2006; Gregory & Milner 2009 Work-life balance is an area of increasing importance to both employees seeking to balance work and non-work roles and to organizations striving to improve their organizational effectiveness or competitive advantage

According to Clarke 2004 Work-life balance is generally associated with equilibrium between the amount of time and effort devotes to work and personal activities, in order to maintain an overall sense of harmony in life.

According to Hudson 2005 Work-life balance, in its broadest sense, is defined as a satisfactory level of involvement or Fit between the multiple roles in a persons life

According to Alexandra, (2003), the term work/life balance is about individuals having a measure of control over when, where and how they work, leading them to be able to enjoy an optimal quality of life.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research is an art of scientific investigation. Research comprises defining and redefining problems, formulating hypothesis or suggested solutions,

collecting, organizing and evaluating data, making deduction and reaching conclusions and at last carefully testing the conclusion to determine whether they formulating hypothesis.

Methodology: The Study is about the work life balance in an Organization. It deals with the title of the study, objectives & Scope of study.

Title of the Study: The study is titled as WORK LIFE BALANCE at IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects Limited, Hyderabad.

Problem Statement: Investigate the work-life balance outlook in the Essar context, and identify
the facilitators and obstacles that face or help working people in Essar in their efforts to accommodate work and personal demands.

Objectives of the study To assess the information whether employees have to spend more time in the organization due to over work and if employees can get sufficient time for selfdevelopment and family

To check out whether the steps taken by organization for employees development and their family welfare are good enough

Identify

the extent to which employees are getting support from seniors about work related issues

Identify the improvement areas and prepare action plans against them
Learn whether different groups of employees have different needs or issues

Scope of the Study


The study was conducted on employees of L&T- Engineering and Construction Division, Faridabad. Employees were interviewed with questionnaires which had structured questions on their importance attached to various factors behind employee attrition Data sources: QUESTIONNAIRE

Data is collected from primary sources. Collection of the data is of primary importance in the research process. Data which is collected for the purpose of research helps in proper analysis which is helpful to conduct research effectively. The data source, which is very important in the collection of data, is primary data and secondary data.

Primary Data: This consists of original information gathered for specific purpose. The normal procedure is by interacting with the people individually and/ or in a group, to get

the required data.

Secondary Data: This consists of the information that already exists somewhere, either in some Annual Records or Magazines etc, having been collected for other purpose.

For this study I have used primary data.


Survey Approach: The questionnaire was administered through direct contact with respondents.

Sample Size & Sampling Technique:


The study covers a sample of employees of IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects Ltd. The Respondents were selected on a Sample Random basis from the following categories of the employees,

a) Middle Management b) Junior Management

Statistical Tool: Sample percentage

Sample Variety: Respondents are mostly selected from

the Middle Management

and Junior Management.. So the Sample Size is limited to 70 due to availability and the busy schedule of the employees.

Sampling Procedure: The sampling method used is Random Sampling. This sampling Method is used because the respondents were selected randomly. The sampling unit selected mostly from the Middle Management and Junior Management. The sample

size is fixed to 70 respondents; the sampling procedure is response from the respondents.

Statistical Tool: In this research various percentages were identified in the analysis and these were presented pictorially by the column charts and pie charts in order to have a better quality.

Questionnaire Design: A structured questionnaire was designed consisting of close ended questions and open ended questions were distributed to the

respondents personally to get their responses.
