1. THESIS STATEMENT
Present the projects argument or interpretation in two sentences. If you are using the NHD theme, you might want to make it evident in your thesis statement.

In the early 1950s, Chicago became the blues capital of the world and people of Chess Records made that happened such as artists Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Little Walter, and Etta James. They changed the face of Chicagos music scene by introducing blues.
2. SUMMARY OF PROJECT
Briefly explain your project and its conclusion. Include: How and why did change happen and what was the impact? Why is it historically significant? What historical meaning or importance can we learn from your findings?

Leonard and Phil Chess were Polish immigrants who founded Chess Records in 1950. They started the record company to give blues artists an opportunity to record music. The Chess brothers were giving the public a type of music that was not being produced by the major record labels at that time. They helped make Muddy Waters Chicagos most famous blues singer. Eventually Chess Records changed the segregation of music by white artists such as Beastie Boys and The Rolling Stones naming and singing the same exact songs of the Chess Record artists.
3. Required for projects using the National History Day theme only.
Explain how this project integrates the NHD theme Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, Events into its argument.

The History Fair Theme, Turning point in history is the core of my website. First, my website addresses the music scene in Chicago before blues became popular. The turning points looks at how Chess Records changed the type of music that was popular in Chicago during the 1950s. It

also changed the music scene by integrating African American and White musicians under the same label.
4. PROCESS A. What historical question did you start off withand how did it change once you began doing your research? My historical question was How did Chess Records change the music scene in Chicago during the 1950s-1960s? Through my research the question I started off with remained the same. B. What kinds of sources did you use as evidence to develop your argument (for example, letters, photographs, government documents, interviews, etc.)?

I used pictures from Flickr, I interviewed people through email and I used books from a variety of libraries.
C. Select one piece of evidence that you used and explain how it influenced your argument. The article about Chuck Berry that states that Chuck Berry was able to come back after three years of absence from Chess Records, it shows that Chess Records launched African Americans careers. This led me to see just how significant Chess Records was for upcoming Jazz artists.

D. List libraries (other than school), museums, and other institutions that you visited to do your research.
