January 22, l!% POWER ANB ACCESSORY GEARBOX ASSEMBLY, VALVE ASSEMBLY-REWORK LANNlNG lNFORMATION: ZFFECTIVlTYz tEASONz Model 250-C18, C20, and C2OB Power and Accessory Gearbox Check Valve Assemblies, Part No- 6870901 and 6858690. Several instances of oil leaking from the aircraft oil supply tank into the gearbox sump when the engine is not operating have been reported. This leaksge occurred predominatly in aircraft where the location of the oil supply tank results in a large static head of oil at the engine inlet port. A similar problem on 250 turboprop models was corrected by incorporation of a new oil check valve with a higher opening pressure0 This valve, P/N 6886438, was released to the 250-Bl5G, Bl? and BlIB models. It replaced P/N 6858690 Check Valve Assy* The P/N 6886438 Check Valve Assy is the same as the P/N 6858690 Check Valve Assy except that it incorporates a stronger spring (P/N 6886437) This stronger spring increases the minimum opening pressure of the P/N 6886438 Valve to not less than 3. 7 psid as compared to 2 1 psid for the superseded Valve Assy Also, service experience on P/N 6870901 Check Valve Assemblies, which incorporate steel guides, has shown that the steel guides tend to wear into the poppet stem. This results in the valve sticking open. 1ESCRlPTIONz Existing P/N 6858690 Check Valve Assemblies can be reworked to P/N 6886438 by installing the new P/N 6886437 Spring. Earlier P/N 6870901 Check Valve Assemblies, which incorporated steel guides, can be also reworked to P/N 6886438 by replacing P/N 6853533 Guides (steel) with P/N 6824314 Guides (aluminum) and installing the new P/N 6886437 Spring Not Affected CHECK

Modify P/N 6879901 and 6858690 Check Valve Assemblies to P/N 6886438 Valve Assembly* (See Figure 1.) A. B. C. Remove P/N 6735927-62 Retaining Ring from valve body* Remove P/N 6858691 Poppet Assembly, two P/N 6853533 Poppet Guides and P/N 6821557 Spring from valve body. Scrap P/N 6853533 Guides and P/N 6821557 Springsq NOTE: If the poppet stem OD (Diameter B, Figure 2) shows any wear marks resulting from the steel guides, remove the marks and restore the 32 rms surface finish. Maintain the 0.293-in. minimum diameter* If diameter B is less than 0.293 in., hard chrome plate (AMS2406) and finish to the dimensions of Figure 2.

Reinstall P/N 6858691 Poppet Assembly, two new P/N 6824314 Poppet Guides, and new P/N 6886437 Spring in valve body. Secure in valve body with P/N 6735927-62 Retaining Ring.

Reidentify modified check valve assembly as P/N 6886438 per AS478CL-M. Record compliance with 250-Cl8 CEB-169 or 250-C2O/C2OB CEB-1038 in the Gearbox Assembly (yellow pages), Modification Record, Part III of the Engine Log Book.
