PLANNING INFORMATION: EFFECTIVITY: All Model 250-C20B and B17B Turbine Assemblies prior to the following serial numbers. Model 250-C20B Turbine Serial No. CAT 33275 (excluding CAT 33015, 33243, 33254, 33265 thru 33271, and 33273) CAT 80179

250-B17B REASON:

To prevent power turbme rotor (N2) drag or lockup caused by carbon buildup on the power turbine rotating labyrinth seal k,nives. A sheet metal baffle is added inthe oil sump area of the power turbine support and seal assembly. The baffle is similar to the integral cast baffle of the 250-C20 or B17 power turbine support and seal assembly. In-service P/N 6889350 power turbine support and seal assemblies may be reworked by tack welding P/N 6895054 Baffle in the sump area. Following rework, the power turbine support and seal assemblie are reidentified as P/N 6898730.

POWER TURBINE SUPPORT AND SEAL ASSEMBLY - REWORK INSTRUCTIONS:

Rework P/N 6889350 Power Turbine Support and Seal Assemblies as follows: NOTE: A. B. P/N 6895052 Supports Incorporate the sump baffle.

Machine off the nickel graphite from 19-24 seal surface (refer to 250-C20 or B17 Series Overhaul Manual). Tack weld P/N 6895054 Baffle to the support in three (3) places as shown in Figure 1. Use 718 (AMS 5832), Hastelloy W (AMS 5786), or Hastelloy X (AMS 5798) weld rod. CAUTION: THE LENGTH OF EACH TACK WELD MUST BE 0.12 INCH. THE BEARING BORE IN THE SUPPORT CAN BE DISTORTED IF BOTH ENDS OF THE BAFFLE ARE COMPLETELY (FULLY) WELDED TO THE SUPPORT CASTING.

Remove burrs and sharp edges. NOTE: Ensure that the bearing bore meets the overhaul manual limits.

D.

Respray the #19-24 seal surface with nickel graphite. Use spray nozzle P7-F. (Refer to 250-C20 or Bl? Series Overhaul Manual. ) Obliterate the superseded support part number and reidentify as 6898730 per AS478-2Dl or -2E. NOTE: P/N 6895052 Supports should be reidentified as 6898730. These supports incorporate the sump baffle without the added air supply hole in the cloverleaf cover plate. Revision No. 4 June 1, 1979 Published April 7, 1977
