Loop Analysis

Legend of loop colors:

The circuit: The number beside each resistor, inductor or capacitor is its complex impedance. For a resistor this is its resistance, for an inductor this is w*L where w is the angular velocity of the generators in the circuit and L is the inductance of the inductor, and for a capacitor this is 1/(w*C) where w again is the angular velocity of the generators in the circuit and C is the capacitance of the capacitor. The number beside the generator is its voltage expressed as a phasor.

The system of loop equations: The unknowns in this system are the loop currents i1, i2, etc. (6+6j) i1 4j i2 = +50j 4j i1 + (5+7j) i2 = +30j

The solutions: The loop currents i1, i2, etc. are expressed as phasors. i1= 7.38<65.2 i2= 5.83<67.8

The currents: The number beside each generator, resistor, inductor and capacitor gives the current flowing through that generator, resistor, inductor or capacitor (in amperes) expressed as a phasor. The arrow gives the direction in which the current is measured.

The voltages: The number beside each generator, resistor, inductor and capacitor gives the voltage difference between the ends of that generator, resistor, inductor and capacitor expressed as a phasor (in volts). The arrow gives the direction in which the voltage is measured.

The powers: The number beside each generator gives the time-averaged power delivered to the circuit by that generator (in watts). The number beside each resistor gives the time-averaged power dissipated by that resistor (again in watts). Inductors and capacitors dissipate no time-averaged power.
