IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES

1. Please arrive promptly at the time indicated on the schedule. 2. This conference will mainly include parent/s and child. Your child will lead the 45-minute session by sharing the learning and learning experiences that have taken place over the last couple months. This may include playing educational games, reading, iPad apps, computers, etc. It is a rare and well-appreciated opportunity for the large majority of our students. The teacher will be available but will be circulating throughout the room. If you wish to discuss your childs progress at length with the teacher, please make a separate appointment for this. 3. There will be 4-6 students in the classroom with their parents at any given time. 4. Please turn off cell phones for the 45 minutes you will be with your child in his/her classroom so you can give your child the undivided attention s/he deserves. 5. Please make arrangements for your other children so you can be alone in the classroom with your child. School aged siblings will be able to play in the supervised playground or quietly read in the supervised CMC (library) during your conference time. 6. ESL Students and their parents may and should visit the ESL room as part of the 45minute conference. 7. PE, Music and Art teachers will be available to meet with you and your child either before or after our classroom conference. Your child may delight in visiting the gymnastics room with you, or showing you some of the instruments and art materials that s/he uses each week. Specialist classes are often a highlight of your childs weekly schedule, so they should be included on the tour of your childs learning that you will be taking on March 1. No appointment is necessary.

What is the parents role during the conference? Follow your childs lead Be an active listener and show interest in your childs learning Provide positive feedback Encourage explanations Ask guiding questions (see below) Please speak your home language J Get involved in any game or activity your child wants to show you.
