CHRIST
THE

MARCH 3, 2013 THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT

O God, eternal shepherd, who govern your flock with unfailing care, grant in your boundless fatherly love a pastor for your Church who will please you by his holiness and to us show watchful care. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

KING

Prayer for the Election of a New Pope Lord Jesus Christ, You are the Good Shepherd, And you never leave your flock untended. You gave your life that we may live, And you appoint shepherds after your own heart To lead your people by word and example To likewise give themselves away in love. We thank you for the ministry of Pope Benedict XVI, And for his service to the Church and the world. We ask that you now give him a fruitful period Of rest and prayer, of gratitude and praise. We ask you, Lord Jesus, with the Father, To send the Holy Spirit on the Church once again. In particular, guide the Cardinals who will shortly exercise The obligation and privilege of electing a new Pope. Guide their deliberations and decisions With divine wisdom and insight. Even now, Lord Jesus, give to the new Pope, Whom you have already chosen, An abundance of holiness and strength, To carry out the mission you have entrusted to him. May your Word reign supreme in his life, And may his every word and action point the Church to You, The supreme and eternal Shepherd, And the only mediator between God and humanity, For you live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

Jesus thirsts even now, in your heart and in the poor -- He knows your weakness. He wants only your love, wants only the chance to love you." Blessed Teresa of Calcutta

St. Peregrine prayer service Saturday March 9th at 11:00 a.m. in the church.

We are no longer accepting Ultra Food Receipts. Thank you for your wonderful response to this year's campaign.

Fast & Abstinence Regulations

1. Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent. 2. Everyone 18 years of age and under 59 years of age is bound to fast and to abstain on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. 3. On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. 4. To disregard completely the law of fast and abstinence is seriously sinful. 5. Lent is the principal season of penance in the Christian year; all, in addition to following the Lenten regulations, are strongly urged to develop and follow a program of voluntary self-denial, serious prayer, and a performance of works of charity and mercy.

Leadership Meeting
The Leadership of Christ the King will meet on March 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the Early Learning Academy to gain an update on the Early Learning Academy and to learn of the formation of a special committee to study the Catholic Schools Agreement. Year of Faith 2012-2013

March 3, 2013

Let us beseech the Lord to reawaken in us the joy at his presence and that we may once more adore him. Without adoration, there is no transformation of the world. (Pope Benedict XVI)
The trouble with our world today boils down to one thing: lack of belief in, and faith in, the Eucharist. To a certain degree this affects us all. If we really believed that the Eucharist is Jesus wouldnt each of us sign up for an hour of adoration in an instant? To put it another way, if we knew Jesus was literally walking around in a house in Kalamazoo waiting to show us the solutions to our problems in life, wouldnt we make an appointment to see Him no matter how busy we are? All solutions and healings come from the Eucharist because the Eucharist is Jesus. It is important to make a sacrifice of our time and sign up for a specific hour of adoration simply because Jesus has gone out of His way, to descend from Heaven, to come to Kalamazoo to speak to us and heal us but this takes many appointments. Jesus appreciates any visit and bestows many graces on us. But how much more will He heal us when we imitate Him and go out of our way in visiting Him by signing up for a particular Holy Hour. Our Saints knew all of this all too well. It isnt because they were Saints that they adored the Eucharist, rather it was because they adored the Eucharist that they became Saints. Join us for Eucharistic Adoration. The Blessed Sacrament is exposed for Adoration on Thursdays from 9:00am until 8:00pm. For more information, contact Bill Runge at (630) 396-6075.

YOU DONT HAVE TO BE IRISH TO JOIN CCW IN CELEBRATING ST. PATRICKS DAY ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13!

Although reservations are not necessary, please call Judy at 630-629-3028 to let us know that you are coming so we know how many leprechauns to prepare for. Plan to come, bring a friend and enjoy! ERIN GO BRAGH! The Council of Catholic Women EVERYONE IS IRISH ON ST. PARTICKS DAY Faith Formation Committee Meeting March 12, at 7 pm in the PLC. We are discussing the definition of an Active Parishioner. If you would like to attend please contact Eileen Maggiore at 630-396-6076.

Let us take time, in the course of the week, in passing, to go in and spend a moment with the Lord who is so near. (Pope Benedict XVI)

Christ the King's CCW's Bingo Night at Lexington on Presidents' Day was very successful!!!!
There were 17 CCW members and 49 residents present. Thanks to Sharon Pierscionek for chairing this event and being a most excellent bingo caller. Pat LeBeau suggested our theme of "In God We Trust". She shared a story of how those words on a penny can mean so much! We also had fun with a quiz about the Presidents. Thanks to everyone who baked, donated prizes, counted money, and assisted at the residents' tables. Everyone had a great time... and I am sure the residents would like to do this again!

FRANCISCAN MINISTRY OF THE WORD

What is a Parish Mission? A parish mission is an opportunity for a parish to deepen and clarify its faith response to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is aimed at a renewal and a deeper commitment to Jesus, His mission, and the life of the Church. It is a time of blessing for all, and an opportunity for revitalization of Christ the King Parish Community. Why should I go? We all need to do something just for ourselves. We commit ourselves to renewal, so that we can be refreshed with Gods Word and Gods Love in order to be the Body of Christ to the World.

CHRIST THE KING FINANCE COUNCIL Meeting minutes for Feb 6, 2013
The Finance Council met on the evening of February 6th. Rick Cosenza, Lori Bhardwaj, Brian Carnahan, and Elaine Ward were in attendance. We opened in prayer, and the minutes from our prior meeting were unanimously approved. Lori gave an update on the school, where everything is going well. 23 students are already signed up for next year (18 full-time equivalent), with 10 being Kindergarteners. Next years tuition rates are being finalized and the school budget is being prepared. A Pastoral Council Meeting was held on Feb 5th, and we discussed one of the issues from that meeting - the potential of putting together an agreement for CTK parishioners who attend a Catholic school other than Christ the King Academy. Financially, we are current on all bills, and expenses are in line with expectations, but we continue to be behind budget on regular Sunday offerings. The number of contributors remained consistent with the introduction of the new envelopes, but we will continue to analyze giving for the upcoming months before drawing any conclusions about the impact of the new envelopes. Finally, we discussed the upcoming plan for the Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal. Our next meetings are scheduled for Mar 6th and Apr 10th.

Recently, I was cleaning the faith formation area at the Academy and I came across a handout of the ABCs of Stewardship from the Diocese of Joliet. It reminded me of many important themes that are part of the personal growth of stewardship. One theme in the handout under G is Gratitude, which reads; As a steward, one must have a genuine sense of gratitude. I had a friend who asked me, If all you had today was what you gave thanks for yesterday, what would you have? Needless to say, the first time I was asked that question, I would have had very little. To me as a Catholic this is very important in my personal and professional life because we all have many examples but do we share our gratitude. I am very grateful to the Santo Nino prayer community and the Christ the King St. Vincent DePaul Society who recently gave proceeds to our Academy. It is important to recognize individuals and organizations which have many options for which that can give donations to but choose the Academy. Another theme from the ABCs of Stewardship is C Commitment, it reads; Its not easy to become a steward. It takes daily practice and commitment. Learning to trust God and others is often what makes commitment especially difficult. Time also plays havoc with the commitment to stewardship. I dont have time to do the things I must do, so how can I squeeze out time for volunteering? Often, when I am beginning to create a change in my life, I need to establish a support system so that I am accountable not only to myself (I can accept about any excuse I create) but to someone else. I have a friend who will ask Did you do your two hours of volunteer work this week? Clearly, at Christ the King Parish we are blessed with many people and events that encourage and support the idea of stewardshipbut what we do with stewardship is the question we each need to answer. I invite you to Google: the ABCs Of Stewardship and revisit the themes that are so much of our Catholic lives as we practice our faith the way God intended. Stewardship is also a W Way of Life. Stewardship is not an addendum; its not something I can do once in awhile when I feel like it. Stewarding believes the we receive Gods gifts gratefully, cultivate them responsibly, share them lovingly, in justice with others and return them with increase to the Lord (U.S. bishops letter). Yours in Christ, Mrs. Placey
