Dear Muslims, For time immemorial, Bangladesh has been a country of communal harmony. irrespective of religious or cultural differences, the people of this country, situated in south asia and straddling the fertile ganges-Brahmaputra delta, have been living in peace. however a shadow is sweeping across this land, sowing discord, hatred and violence.
A group of secular-fundamentalist atheist bloggers of Muslim origin are now running an unprecedented campaign of obscene insult against Allah, prophet Muhammad, and all the sacred institutions of Islam which the Muslim Umma has seen never before. What is more, they do it not only with impunity but with total support, even active encouragement and under full protection of the Bangladesh government. It is important to note that the same group is the organiser of current fascist Shahabag demonstration baying for blood of the opposition leaders and Ulama. The group have insulted Allah, the Quran, prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the Muslim Prayer, the Hajj, they have not even spared the Muslim festival of Eid, the act of Istinja (personal hygiene) as well as the Hijab. All major political and non-political Islamic organisations and leaders have called a united movement against the Shahbag; there have been huge protests all over Bangladesh. Instead of putting an end to these obscene insults against what Islam and Muslims hold sacred and sacrosanct, the government is enthusiastically fanning this hysteria in the name of trying the so-called war criminals; Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is on record saying I wish I was at Shahbag It would not be much of an exaggeration if one were to call this statesponsored blasphemy. For we have a ruling regime which happily shuts down newspapers and television channels simply for reporting injustice and corruption, but allows the activities of the above mentioned bloggers to go unchallenged. For many years the bloggers had been left undisturbed; their material have mostly been in circulation among those that may share their views. However, with the Shahbag protest which is being lead by some of these bloggers, their views have been promoted to the mainstream. It is unprecedented that the government of a Muslim majority nation gives vocal support and places people with these inflammatory beliefs on the central stage of the country and advocates them as leaders! As Bangladesh is full of devout Muslims who love the prophet Muhammad, this is nothing but a recipe for civil conflict. It would be like the prime minister of the UK, giving central space in the party conference to foul mouthed members of a tiny fringe racist group like the English Defence League!
