Flash Testing - Flash Testing Electrical Safety Equipment

Flash Testing evaluates whether the electric insulation section of an electric equipment or parts have sufficient dielectric strength for the working voltage. It is also called dielectric withstand test or hipot test. In Flash Testing, a voltage stress that is much higher than the voltage that is normally applied to the insulation section for a specific time to see whether a dielectric breakdown occurs. If a current flowing through the insulation section exceeds the limit during the test period, it is assumed that a dielectric breakdown occurred. If a dielectric breakdown does not occur, the insulator is assumed to have sufficient dielectric strength.

AC test and DC test For the test between the primary circuit and an accessible section as shown in Fig. B-2, an AC voltage is normally applied. If a filter for eliminating the electromagnetic interference is present in the location corresponding to Z1 or Z2 and its capacitive component is large, the distinction between the current flowing through the filter and the current used to assume a dielectric breakdown will be difficult. In this case, it is recommended that the test be performed using a DC voltage equal to the peak value of the specific AC voltage. Please Contact Us for more information.

SEL relays are state of the art multifunction protective relays that provide unmatched protection for your electrical equipment. These relays are used to protect small and large medium voltage distribution systems. Most of the relays are very complex, steep learning curve, and require a trained protection engineer to determine the proper settings for your application. The multi-function relays also have tremendous control and logic capabilities which makes them suitable for a wide range of applications. One SEL relay can replace, multiple protective relays, control switches, indicating lights, lockout relays, control relays, and meters. However, to enable these functions, the relay must be properly programmed using SELs programming language, acSELerator Quickset, QuickSet Designer software programs. Due to the power and complexity of these relays, most relays have multiple pages of available settings. These are not simple devices and are difficult for the average engineer to apply and program. The protection engineers at PowerStudies.com have attended multiple SEL seminars and training classes and know how to program these devices. We have the knowledge and training to enable and determine protective functions. Our protection engineers will determine the correct functions and setting and enter them into the relay settings file. We will send the relay setting file to you which can then be loaded into the relay from a laptop computer via null modem cable. Our knowledge and experience allow us to efficiently determine the proper settings which will save you time and money. Let the experts at PowerStudies.com determine the SEL relay settings for your project! Call us at 253639-8535 or send an email to quotes@powerstudies.com.
