Scope & Method


The product scope of World Food Processing Machinery is defined as equipment designed for use by food and beverage processors. Total product demand and shipments are provided US dollars at the manufacturers level and demand is segmented in terms of: industrial bakery machinery meat, poultry, and seafood machinery other types of machinery, including chocolate and confectionery, beverage production, dairy and milk, and fruit and vegetable machinery. parts and attachments. In addition, total demand, total shipments, and the various segments are provided by region, segmented in terms of: North America Western Europe Asia/Pacific other regions. Excluded from the scope of this report is machinery designed for and used primarily in nonmanufacturing settings, such as milking machines, restaurant cooking and heating equipment, and retail bakery ovens and bread slicers.

WORLD FOOD PROCESSING MACHINERY Nonindustrial food processing machinery used in food and beverage manufacturing facilities (eg, residential or commercial microwave ovens installed in employee lunchrooms) are excluded from the scope of this report. Also excluded is refrigeration equipment designed for food storage applications (as opposed to processing line chillers and freezers), packaging and associated line machinery, used food processing machinery, and related services such as equipment rebuilding, retrofitting, and systems integration. Total demand, shipments, and the various segments are sized at five-year intervals for historical years 2006 and 2011 with a forecast to 2016. Forecasts emanate from the identification and analysis of pertinent statistical relationships and other historical trends/events as well as their expected progression/impact over the forecast period. Five-year compound annual growth rates (CAGRs) are provided to illustrate product trends between reported years and to facilitate comparisons among the various segments. Demand forecasts are the illustration of underlying trends extrapolated to a particular year. To recognize such trends and for the sake of brevity, CAGRs may be expressed as annual growth in the narrative of this report. However, as historical trends may demonstrate, demand in any given year, including a forecast year, may exhibit volatility and depart from the underlying trend. Demand in US dollars reflects local-currency inflation from period to period, including to the forecast year. Furthermore, US dollar values represent current, average-annual exchange rates between local currencies and the US dollar for the historical periods, including the base year. The forecast year, however, assumes the same exchange rate used for the base year.
