They are unexpected and leave people unprepared. Trauma counselling at Mosaic helps the most vulnerable members of our community to get the help they need. For those in need, this help is critical. Traumatic events include physical or emotional abuse, abuse and violence in countries of origin, bullying and harassment, relationship distress, loss and isolation. By helping people deal with their traumatic experience, we can avoid costlier interventions down the road. If left untreated, symptoms of trauma can include stress and anxiety disorder, depression and suicide, mental health issues, substance abuse, violence and crime, relationship breakdown, job loss and financial crisis.

GIVING OPPORTUNITY Mosaics Trauma Client Assistance Fund (or TCAF) is used to provide counselling and services for members of our community that have experienced a traumatic event and would otherwise not be able to afford or have access to these services. Your donations to the TCAF help people, like Grace. Grace was seven years old when she left her Sudanese home and came to Canada with her family. Grace suffered from anxiety, bed-wetting and nightmares. She couldnt concentrate and cried all the time. Having witnessed the murder of her Aunt in her homeland, Grace was suffering from severe trauma. Recognizing Graces need for counselling, Reception House of Waterloo Region arranged for Grace to see Kendra, a counsellor at Mosaic. Kendra worked with Grace and through non-directive play therapy, helped Grace to process the trauma. She also helped Grace to develop calming techniques and tools to help her to deal with her emotions. The bed-wetting and crying has stopped, the anxiety has subsided and Grace is now playing like other children. Grace has been able to separate from her mother and attend school.
