Volume 13, Number 11

D r a w ing Li ne s
For he who is not against us is on our side Mark 9:40. It is not tough to draw lines. It is just tough to live with them. Jesus was pointed when he addressed the challenge of living the life He had brought. He didnt want confusion. He wanted understanding. He spoke of drawing lines. There would be division. It would not be the simple math exercises a child does as homework. It would be the dividing of people. It would be the dividing of people who are close. It would even be the people who are a part of a family. Dividing lines would not be some simple line of little impact. It would be tough and even painful, but it would serve the purpose. When a line is drawn it deserves to be well considered before it is put into active application. Remember; lines separate. Sometimes they even separate where they shouldnt. Robert Frost wrote a kind of tongue-incheek little poem about dividing lines. In the poem, he and his neighbor were restoring the fence that divided their properties. Frost thought it an unnecessary task, but the neighbor repeatedly insisted, Good fences make good neighbors. There is no doubt that there have always been lines of division, and that they will always be needed. Spiritually speaking, if there are no lines, the cross becomes a wasted effort. No one would need to be added, as there would be no line that determines one to be separate, or outside of a saved relationship with God. Still, where are the lines to be precisely drawn? As I stated, it is easy to draw lines, but tough to live with them. (More to come.) Russ

The program was very helpful in advertising our Study Series, when we were having it, a few years ago.
