MPU
You can install one or two MPUs in the NE40E-X1. If two MPUs are installed, they work in redundancy mode. In this case, the master MPU works normally, and the slave MPU is in the standby state. On the slave MPU, the management interface is inaccessible and the Console interface or the AUX interface does not accept any configuration commands from users. The slave MPU exchanges information including heartbeat messages and backup data only with the master MPU. The system ensures the consistency of the data on the master MPU with the data on the slave MPU through high reliability mechanisms such as batch backup and realtime backup. In this manner, after the master/slave switchover, the slave MPU can take over from the master MPU instantly. You can set an MPU to the default master MPU. After an MPU is set to the default master MPU, the MPU is selected as the master MPU during the start of the device. The system supports master/slave switchover in two modes: automatic switchover and forced switchover. The automatic switchover is triggered by a serious fault or resetting of the master MPU. The forced switchover is triggered by commands through the console. The MPU is a combination of multiple functional modules. The system control and management unit, the system clock unit, and the system maintenance unit are all integrated

into the MPU. Thus, the MPU can perform the functions of the control plane, clock plane, and system maintenance plane. The functions and hardware implementation of each unit, however, are independent of each other. The functions of each unit are as follows: System control and management unit This unit processes routing protocols. In addition, this unit broadcasts and filters routing packets and downloads routing policies from the policy server. This unit performs management and communications for the LPUs. The MPU provides outband communications between boards. The MPU manages and carries out communications between the LPUs and standby MPU through the outband management bus. This unit performs data configuration. The system configuration data, booting file, upgrade software, and system logs are stored on the MPU. There is a CF card on the MPU. The CF card stores system files and logs and is not hot swappable. There is one USB port on the MPU panel. The USB port is hot swappable and used for software upgrade or temporary data storage. This unit manages and maintains the device through management interfaces such as the serial interface and the network interface. System clock unit This unit provides LPUs with reliable and synchronous SDH clock signals. The MPU supports the IEEE 1588v2 clock and complies with IEEE 1588v2. System maintenance unit This unit collects monitoring information, remotely or locally tests system units, or in-service upgrades system units. Through the Monitorbus, this unit collects the operation data periodically. The MPU generates controlling information, such as the presence test of boards and fan speed adjustment.
The main control module and the clock module all adopt 1:1 hot backup, which improves the system reliability.
