Task Literautre Survey Identify different reaction paths. Perform a market survey to determine the plant capacity. Find out the big players in the market, price trends in last 20 yrs. Find uses of the above compounds. Find component & mixture properties, working temperature and pressures. Different type of catalyst used etc. Product specifications required by the market. Conceptual Flow Sheet Development Conceptually Design different flow sheets using all the reactions. Identify separation and reaction techniques required in different reaction paths. Identification of feasible routes Select feasible routes from the flow sheets developed. Feasible routes can be more than one Mass Balance Perform linear mass balance manually of the complete process and for each equipment. Steady state simulation on ASPEN Using ASPEN plus simulate the process. Clearly connect all the recycle/ purge streams and use proper nomenclature for equipment and streams. Verify the results obtained from task Parametric Study of operating parameters Determine the optimum operating conditions by performing a parametric analysis. Plot variation of important parameters.

Evaluation Criteria 1. Plant capacity (do a survey and choose a basis) 2. Various reaction paths 3. Uses (final compound, byproducts and intermediates) 4. Product specifications 5. Chemical and physical properties of all reagents and products

FINAL EVALUATION

9th-13th Apr

IMPORTANT NOTES: 1. The formatted reports for each evaluation are to be uploaded one night before the ppt (before 4 am) failing which the group would be penalized with 20% of the stage marks. 2. Attendance Policy: Missing the lab turn w/o proper medical certificate would lead to 25% penalty for the respective task evaluation. 3. The marks for each task will be decided as the course progresses. 4. Tentative breakup of marks (It may change as the course progresses): Weekly Tasks 35% Evaluation stage I, II 15% each Evaluation stage III 10% Final Evaluation 25% 5. Evaluation stage breakup (out of 100) Viva 60% Report 40% (Incase report is not submitted on time, then it would be automatically evaluated out of 20%) This 40% would be broadly evaluated on the basis of content, style of writing (no direct copy pasting please) and formatting. 6. Two hard copies of the report should be brought for the evaluation stages. 7. Report should contain a proper index, list of tables and figures and references.
