Spring is here and summer vacation is just a couple months away. Im overexcited! After a hard year of school, homework and sports, we can finally take a break, and enjoy summer at its very best. Its a time to take a breath, say good-bye to friends and move on to your next grade . I find the last 2 months of school to be the most exciting, because they are usually crammed with field trips, activities and fun events to celebrate the end of a great year. For me, 7th grade has gone by in a snap. It feels like just yesterday I walked into the 7th grade hallway for the first time, and now its already May! The year has been full of pleasurable experiences and memories, and hopefully there will be more to come. In this issue of Knights Weekly, we will talk about whats happening in the different grade levels, and how they are ending their year. But school isnt over yet students, so pull through and study hard for another few months. People say the 4th quarter is always the hardest, filled with end-of-the-year-tests, projects and essays. Its quite common to see people running around hallways stressing about things, while people spending their lunches doing forgotten homework inside a stuffy classroom. Do your homework at home! Trust me, its more fun to spend your lunch eating and hanging out with friends. If it may seem impossible, what keeps me going is thinking that someday, hard work will pay off! What we really need is more time. A day is only 24 hours, and there are a lot of things you need to fit in there. School, homework, sports, friends, and also sleep! When I go to bed late, my punishment is a stressful morning feeling grumpy and half asleep throughout my first blocks. Coffee wont help, because I dont like it, and I dont advise drinking it either! I read somewhere that an apple gives you more energy than a cup of coffee. Can this be true? Anyways, Im off to Google to find an answer, so I hope you enjoy Knights Monthly and find something interesting to read, and for those of you people who despise reading turn to page nine for some funny comics. -Elvira Welcome to our first edition of Knights Monthly! We are very excited to bring you all the best of AIS! Our goal for this newspaper is to be informative and let you know what is happening around school and in Vienna. If you would like to be involved in our newspaper, its all up to YOU! To contribute stories, cartoons, puzzles, or photos please email ladner.liliana@ais.at OR e.goethlin@ais.at . As you are reading, watch for some amazing cartoons, awesome articles, and perfect photos. Thank you to all of the reporters, photographers, cartoonists and especially Mrs. Miller for all of her support! Before we get carried away with ourselves, its time for YOU to start reading! And now its time to spring into spring with the first edition of Knights Monthly! -Lili

going on, including a big science fair, Earth Week and the Cultural Arts Festival. Spring is here bringing blossoms to cherry trees, petals to flowers, and brand new sports to middle school. The spring sports season features a great season of softball for girls, volleyball for everybody, tennis for everyone and track and field for everyone. Which sport did you join? Is the sun outside and your homework is inside your room undone? How terrible to be missing such great, springappropriate weather because theres a major math test the next morning. WHY WAIT INDOORS WHEN YOU CAN HAVE 15 MINUTES OF YOUR TIME OUT DOORS?? As soon as you get home, you will probably be really stressed and tired from school and the last thing you want to do that day is your boring homework. Well, why stress? Take 15 minutes of your time when you get home to go outside, play with a pet and just relax. Your work will be much better quality after a good, mind relaxing break. Remember to mind spring and GET OUT!

7th Grade
In the 7 grade hallways: th The 7 graders have been watching the news and staying alert with the new organization called Invisible Children or KONY 2012. This is an organization to find Joseph Kony, a man that abducts children and turns them in to soldiers, and to stop what he is doing. If you look on the right , you can th see that the 7 graders have decided to make Kony famous, and have stuck posters on their lockers. Many seventh graders hope Josseph Kony is brought to justice.

At the end of each quarter, every person in each grade experiences the same dread and anticipation. Students scramble to open their emails and check to see if theyve gotten good grades, knowing that whatever work theyve done will be reflected in their report. Whether we like them or not, grades will always be something we have to deal with. The question is, what do grades really do? As an elementary schooler, I was always excited to see if I had received an outstanding in each subject and skill on my report card. The one skill I always faltered

in was handwriting. I always received a satisfactory, which, of course, was never satisfactory to me, being a perfectionist. As I grew older, things like Algebra, or Earth Science took the place of elementary skills like handwriting, but I never forgot the satisfactory mark I had received. And so, without my realization, my handwriting took a slight change in course; as I progressed my handwriting became tinier and neater. Whether I realized it or not, the satisfactory I had received had a huge impact on my handwriting in the future. Because I didnt like the grade I received, I pushed myself to get a better grade and improve.

My grade had influenced me without my knowing it. During elementary school, I received an outstanding, satisfactory, or below satisfactory depending on rd each subject or skill. In 3 grade, I received my first letter grades. In middle school, classes got tougher, and I struggled to maintain good grades. I have been assessed, tested, and graded throughout my school years. Most schools I have attended have made it a priority to assess their students regularly to test their knowledge and what they have learned. To most students, constant tests and quizzes are annoying, and most students could do without them. Tests and quizzes are a nuisance that most students feel they could do without. And when you get to High School, every grade counts. Each mistake you

they have learned. To most students, constant tests and quizzes are annoying, and most students could do without them. Tests and quizzes are a nuisance that most students feel they could do without. And when you get to high school, every grade counts. Each mistake you make is another chip in your overall grade and appearance. Grades dont seem do help us, but as I discovered with my grades in Handwriting, they can influence you to do better. Grades have a huge impact on us as students. They can change our overall grades for the better or worse. They also act as a window to our knowledge and what we have learned. While they may be a nuisance, grades do say a lot about us!
