Dharma, Aartha, Kama and Moksha according to the zodiac signs

According to the Hindu philosophy the fulfilment of a person's life depends upon four major sections namely, Dharma (religion), Artha (money), Kama (desire) and Moksha (emancipation). Four triangles in the zodiacal signs depict these four pillars of our life. These triangles are of Fire, Earth, Wind and Water. Each of the four triangle is represented by three zodiac signs. The following table elucidates the topic -

Table 1 Sanskrit Name Dharma Artha Kama Moksha English Religion Money Desire Emancipation Triangle Fire Earth Wind Water Zodiacal Sign Aries,Leo, Sagittarius Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn Gemini,Libra,Aquarius Cancer, Scorpio,Pisces House 1,5,9 2,6,10 3,7,11 4,8,12

Apart from the signs, in a personal horoscope the houses represented from ascendant (Lagna) are featured in the column 5 of table 1. Some examples will help us understand the subject better. Dharma triangle Example -1 Let's take the example of Swami Vivekananda's horoscope to understand the signification of Dharma triangle. In Swamiji's horoscope, the first zodiacal sign of religion - Aries has his ruler Mars present there, the second sign of dharma Leo is empty and Sun is in the third sign (Sagittarius). Sun is very prominent in Sagittarius as the ruler of this sign is Jupiter and he is very much friendly towards Sun. These two planets Mars and Sun are the true representative Swamiji's dharma chart. Mars is the commander of the army and Sun is the king as per savants of astrology. Example -2 Let's take the example of Ramakrishna Paramhansa's horoscope to understand the signification of dharma triangle. In Ramakrishna's horoscope there is no planet in the dharma triangle. But, if we find dharma houses (1,5 and 9) we will find series of planets Sun, Moon, Mercury,Jupiter and Saturn. This indicates his vast knowledge in various religions apart from Hinduism. Extremely powerful Saturn in Kama triangle and also an exalted 9 th lord (who is also the fourth lord represents mother) and Moon (Mother) in Aquarius made him a worshipper of a mother goddess a great devotee of mother goddess Kali. Artha triangle To divulge characteristics of a triangle we must understand the signs represent that very triangle. For example,

the artha triangle is represented by three signs (column 4, table 1) namely - Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. The following table will explain it better -

Artha Triangle (Table 2) Sign Taurus Virgo Capricorn Owner/Ruler Venus Mercury Saturn Place of Exaltation Moon Mercury Mars Place of Debilitation Ketu Venus Jupiter

For ordinary or moderate money, owner/ruler of a sign generally forms a combination. For plenteous wealth planets who get exalted in artha triangle are more often take the operator's seat. Similarly, debilitated planets of artha triangle stop/delay the procedure or make one rise from a moderate position. The following examples will show how it works Combinations for plenteous wealth Example -1 In the multi millionaire pop princess Madonna's chart the artha triangle is vacant and also there is no planet in 2nd,6th and 10th house from the ascendant. There are four planets in dharma triangle viz., Mars,Ketu,Moon and Mercury. If we consider the 3rd column of the table 2, we will find Moon, Mercury and Mars are the planets who get exalted in artha triangle. Her Ketu in Aries (the first sign of dharma triangle) made her struggle for money in her early years. Example -2 In Billionaire Bill Gates's chart, Ketu, Mercury and Mars are in the artha triangle. Mercury and Mars combination has a direct aspect of Moon from the 7th house. Jupiter is in the 2nd house from the ascendant and there is no planet in the 6th and 10th house. Though Mercury,Mars and Moon combination bestows abundant wealth, Ketu's presence in Taurus made him start from a scratch. Kama triangle Let's start with the table for kama triangle.

Kama Triangle (Table 3) Sign Gemini Libra Aquarius Owner/Ruler Mercury Venus Saturn Place of Exaltation Saturn Place of Debilitation Sun -

The Sanskrit word kama loosely means desire, it is interpreted rather as a driving force which paves the future of a person according to the mode, intensity and nature of it. For an ascetic person God can be his or her desirable object, similarly for an artist or entertainer the skill and

reaching out to the masses can be his or her goal of desire. Example -1 In Ramakrishna Paramhansa's chart there are five planets in kama triangle and amongst them Saturn is the most powerful. Shows the power of his devotion. Saturn is in the 9th from the ascendant shows the dharma, also exalted 9th lord Venus made him one great exponent of religion (dharma). In Swami Vivekananda's chart - Jupiter is the only planet in kama triangle and from 3rd ,7th and 11thfrom the Ascendant Jupiter is placed in 11th (Libra) and there is no other planet present. So his desire is solely derived by Jupiter - the planet for knowledge. Jupiter has a direct aspect of Mars from Aries [the first sign of dharma triangle and 5th (the 2nd house of dharma) from his ascendant]. This combination made him one of the very best thinkers and enlightened monks of all time. In Madonna's chart - Jupiter and Rahu combination in Libra is the only combination available, there is no other planet present in the kama triangle and also from 3 rd ,7th and 11th from the Ascendant. This combination has a direct aspect of Mars, Ketu combination from Aries. Jupiter is knowledge and Rahu in Libra especially in a nakshatra (star) ruled by Mars represents performing arts/ cinema/ video/ picture aspect of Mars and Ketu indicates success after initial struggle but denies a peaceful marital life. A strange coincidence In Swami Vivekananda's and Madonna's chart Jupiter is placed in Libra, in a nakhshatra (star) ruled by Mars. In both the charts Jupiter has a strong aspect of Mars from the Aries. Jupiter represents voice and Mars represents vocal skill. Swamiji was a great orator and a very well-known Indian classical singer of his time. Madonna is a singer, dancer, actress and a director. The difference is in the nakshatra (star), in the Swamiji's chart, Mars is in Ashwini nakshatra ruled by Ketu and in the Madonna's chart Mars is in the Bharani nakshatra ruled by Venus. Ketu represents moksha/dharma and Venus represents artha/kama, hence the difference.

Moksha triangle To understand moksha triangle, we will need to know the dharma triangle too. Let's first look at the following tables to understand the basic nature of the signs involved.

Dharma Triangle (Table 4) Sign Aries Leo Sagittarius Owner/Ruler Mars Sun Jupiter Place of Exaltation Sun Place of Debilitation Saturn -

Moksha Triangle (Table 5) Sign Cancer Scorpio Pisces Owner/Ruler Moon Mars Jupiter Place of Exaltation Jupiter Ketu Venus Place of Debilitation Mars Rahu Mercury

Moksha is the ultimate state, therefore it also suggests a complete mastery of a subject or an crowning attitude. The following examples will elucidate the matter further Example -1 In the chart of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore Jupiter and Moon are the two planets present in the moksha triangle. Jupiter in Cancer (ruled by Moon) and Moon in the Pisces (ruled by Jupiter). There is an exchange of place between these two planets. From the Ascendant, Mars and Ketu are present in the 4th house and other houses (8th and 12th) are empty. So, Jupiter and Moon will provide an excellent moksha yoga and Mars+Ketu combination in Gemini (a sign ruled by Mercury which represents writing) will provide him the path. Gemini is a kama - triangle sign, so these planets will be his driving force. The ruler of Gemini Mercury is situated in Aries (dharma triangle) with exalted Sun and Venus. Both Sun and Venus are in a nakshatra ruled by Venus which made him a prolific song writer and composer of music and dance drama. We have discussed earlier that Mars represents vocal skill and Jupiter - the voice, this combination also made him a singer but Ketu made him give up singing at a later part of his life. Moon is situated in the Pisces the 3 rd and final sign of moksha triangle. Moon represents fine arts/picture/painting/drawing. Rabindranath started painting at the age of almost 70. All these combinations helped him to get the ultimate success in the field of art and culture. Example-2 In Ramakrishna Parmahansa's chart exalted Venus and exalted Ketu are situated in the moksha triangle. From the Ascendant, exalted Rahu is in the 4th and exalted Mars is in the 12th. All these planets are in exalted mode, bestowing the grandest power possible for a moksha yoga. It is said that he was amongst the greatest sages India has ever produced. Astrology is a challenging subject, which needs a careful understanding of planets, stars (nakshatra) and signs. The four triangles as described above are our clues to decipher a sacred geometry called - life.
