Project Brief
Rationale: Visual recording is at the heart of the photography industry. It is the key for photographers to realise what and how to record primary sources using the cameras settings and equipment to convey specific information. Different lighting to create mood, texture angle, colour and black and white imagery are all tools. This project is designed to inform you of possible sources of recording, how to record successfully, look at working photographers and determine how they were achieved with regards to techniques and equipment. The project requires you to consider Visual Language and how parts of the photograph are included to convey a message. Your success in this project will be determined on how well you use the information gathered from class lectures and research which is then put into your own practice. Note: Place all written work and imagery used to complete the project onto your Posterous Project Blog and in addition hand in the project in a work book. If you lose your copy of the project it will be available on the First Year Photography Blog photographers-year-one.posterous.com
Your Workbook and Project Blog should contain the following Task One Research (Unit 1 P1,P3) (Unit 30 P1) NCFE Working together Entry level 3 You are required to research into the following areas of photography. Exposure ISO Shutter Speeds Aperture and Depth of Field Lenses You should be looking at examples of others work and make comments on how it may have been produced. This should include settings, equipment needed and subject matter. You should be making comments on how changing individual settings affect the visual outcome of the photograph. Work in groups to research the five areas listed above and produce a Power-point. Allocate a task for each member of the group then each fill out the Task Form provided. Instructions below to be completed by each member on the Checklist provided, to evidence NCFE Working Together, Entry Level 3. You are required to produce a series of high quality, professional standard location photographs that show creative control of the camera and associated equipment (lenses, tripods.) Task 3 Independent Production (Unit 1 P1 P2, P4, P5, M1, M2 D1) For this task you are required to take inspiration from others work and produce independent photographs that consider not only all the technical aspects of photography but also how you can use them to convey a message (Visual Language). You are required to source locations that allow you to successfully produce innovative, exciting, photography that shows a high level of creativity and independence. Task 4 Evaluation (Unit 1 P3, P4, M2, D1) (Unit 30 P4, M2, M3, M4, D1,D2, D3) The evaluation of each section should show a clear understanding of the production of your own work in comparison to published examples of location photography. You should explain and review your work coherently pointing out the successes and errors suggesting possible areas of improvement. Critical analysis of both technical aspects and visual communication.
