SketchUp & EASE

Process of making a 3D model in SketchUp for EASE analysis

Create a simple model in EASE

Export EASE model (FRD file) to SKP file

When exporting EASE model to SKP file, it automatically created material layers.

The exported SKP file has material information in layers. It can be the basic model to be updated for EASE analysis. (I'll call it "analysis model".)

This model can be used for showing the perspective view of modified acoustic design.

Team member made a fancy 3D model in SketchUp.

"MetalClgThin" Layer "1sawall" layer

Create lapendaries on the ceiling and assigned them to the layer of "Lapendary face $ Lapendary rear". "Entity Info" -> Click Drop-down menu and check "Lapendary face & Lapendary rear" layer. We selected the surfaces from the fancy model that were necessary for EASE analysis. By using copy and paste function, the analysis model was updated. Create a new material if you need additional materials. (i.e. Lapendary face $ Lapendary rear)

Front face in SketchUp = Back face in EASE Right click on a surface Click "reverse faces"

When saving the analysis model in SketchUp, all the layers should be checked "visible".

SketchUp Ver. 5, 4, or older.

You should save SketchUp file as SketchUp 5 or older version.

Import DWF/SKP

Save the analysis model in the "Projects40/EUDORADANCESTUDIO2/Archive" folder. Import SKP file to EASE. (If you save the latest version in SketchUp, it won't read it.)

Right column shows the EASE materials. It needs to be assigned properly by selecting EASE materials. I assigned materials from the files in "Common Material" folder.

Left column will show the layer names that you created in SketchUp.

Assign new materials in EASE.

You can create a new name of EASE file in the Project 40 folder.

After assigning all the materials, you need to create the new FRD file in the designated folder.

Open the newly-created FRD file.
