Appearance
NUDE
Maxwell is a large white anthro with four arms and two muscular legs to hold him up. He appears faintly canine from further away, but on closer inspection has bizarre ears and a rat-like nose. His face itself is burned on the muzzle, revealing pinkish scars. He pins back his long blonde hair in a

ponytail most of the time, revealingif uncoveredtwo faded eyes with irregularly-shaped pupils. His blonde beard has been grown quite long, and this he keeps braided under his chin. The fur it comes from runs along the underside of his neck, along the sides of his ears, and down his chest to just above the stomach. Horns protruding from his lower jaw reach straight backwards, spiraling in on themselves. The horns are bronze in colour. Over the rest of Maxwell's body, there are large tufts of blonde fur running from shoulder to just below elbow on all four arms. On his rear there are also tufts which join up where a tail would be [though he is lacking a tail] and runs up his back where it meets with his hair on the back of the neck. On either side of his mane on his back sprout two sets of wings much like a dragonfly's. The arms of them are the same bronze colour of his horns, as are the veins within the membrane of the wings. At sunrise and sunset the veins and parts of the membranes glow rainbow in a bio-luminescent fashion, lighting Maxwell and the area around him in a fantastic glow. Due to his very white fur, some portions of Maxwell's body appear more pinkish than other parts. For instance, his rat-like nose is quite pink. Other areas include his inner ears, his cheeks, his fingertips and toe tips, his elbows, his knees, and his rear. Anywhere that a joint can be found, it is most likely that the area around it is faintly pink. Maxwell's genitals are much like the rest of his person. His pubic hairs are the same blonde as his normal hair and beard. His testicles are a bit larger than one would expect them to be, and quite pinkish in their faintly fuzzy sack. His sheath protects a very canine-esque shaft. The shaft itself is thicker than the average, but about average length at around 7, and is a light pink as other parts of his body are found to be. In junction to his pubic hair, Maxwell's armpit hair is also the same blonde.

MONKS CLOTHES
Clothes given to Maxwell when he was at the Buddhist temple. They are mainly throw-overs in bright orange and yellow with a sash in blood red. The outfit also comes with golden bracelets, necklaces, and other gems and jewelry for good luck. Many of these accessories are hung in his apartment, though he does take some with him whenever he goes out.

TAE KWON DO UNIFORM

Also given to him by the monks, these clothes are specifically made in order to perform Tae Kwon Do. As a black-belt in the art, Maxwell generally wears the traditional white outfit, though he does have a set in black for various occasions. They are baggy and shaped to fit his more anthro-style, and are specifically made for his four arms. Even so, he does keep an extra belt in order to tie a pair of his hands back for two-handed practice.

COMMONER CLOTHES
In order to blend in with the general crows, Maxwell keeps in his apartment a couple sets of clothing. Though they are still more traditional-oriental style than others seem to wear, he does get by with wearing a large black trench-coat-style jacket that generally covers his upper and mid sections. Usually underneath he wears either black, brown, or white clothing in wraps around his body. Typically he'll wrap up his arms and legs and dawn specially-made sandals. Maxwell has one set of normal, modern clothes that he likes to wear. It consists of a set of blue denim anthro-pants that go all the way to his paw pads and a normal black shirt with elbow-long sleeves that can be rolled up. He keeps a pair of sunglasses with this outfit so as to appear blind without the eye patches. In order to be courteous to those he meets, and to show others that he is in fact blind, Maxwell keeps on his person two eye patchesone for each eye. When alone or with people he's comfortable with, he tends not to wear them. But in public he almost always has them on. He also has a wooden walking stick carved by his master at the Buddhist temple.

Traits and Abilities

BURNS
Maxwell's burns have been there since he was very young when he ventured to the Oracle to obtain the Wish Jar, he was badly burned by the fiery flame heart of the Oracle itself. The burns cover his entire topside of his upper arms, the top of his forearms on his lower arms, the top of his muzzle, and on his chest and belly after the Oracle pushed him away. Though he moisturizes them with lotion from time to time, there are instances when his skin becomes dry and cracks, leading to bleeding and pain. Overextending his arms is sometimes quite painful. To help ease the hurting, Maxwell will often apply lotion and then wrap them up in bandages. He also does this before performing Tae Kwon Do [if he has time to prepare].

BLIND EYES
As punishment for his selfish act of attempting to take the treasured WishJar, Maxwell's sight was stolen from him. The process was slow going as his pupils began to deform, and after two years his eyes were completely useless. The pupils in them had burned out and became shapeless and mutated. Though Maxwell is no longer ashamed of them, he still wears eye patches in order to cover them so that everyone can know he's blind and as a courtesy to those he talks to. During the most powerful stage of his Chi-Overflow, the irises and pupils of each eye will glow brightly in white.

WINGS
Maxwell's wings have been a part of him since birth. They grew with his body, and before the incident with the Oracle, he was beginning to practice with them in anticipation for learning how to fly. Eventually he did learn to fly, but since he is blind he tends not to do so for it sets his sense of place off balance. During both sunrise and sunset the wings will glow throughout the veins and into the membranes, lighting up the area in bio-luminescence. The lights run rainbow, sort of like the strand-lie tentacles of a jellyfish.

CHI OVERFLOW

When meditating or focusing [as in Tae Kwon Do], Maxwell's veins begin to flow with Chi that emits orange-yellow and blue light. These lights flow in sync with his blood; the orange lights flow away from his lungs, and the blue lights flow towards them. In the lungsand where his heart isglows a green light. It is the brightest of all the lights and seems to move with Maxwell's chest as he breathes. There is also a small ppoint of green in the center of his forehead. This Chi empowers him and causes him to be stronger, faster, and generally more centered than he is without the overflow. With the Chi-Overflow in him, Maxwell can see where others are in relation to himselfhis Chi can read their Chi and his mind can map their exact placement. He is also able to see their movement slower than it actually isand move faster than normalwhich helps him attack and defend better than his opponent. Many claim that it seems almost super-computer-fast how well he reacts to their movements. When in this state, the Voices of Chi flow through Maxwell, and when he speaks it sounds as though a group of people are talking in unison rather than just Maxwell himself. Though his voice is the most obvious, there are other male voices and even a couple female voices that speak in turn with him. His breath comes out as a cloud of light-smoke. The breath is white in colour, as if Maxwell is simply breathing light itself. When completely converted in this state, his eyes [the pupil and iris] with also glow white.

Personality
Being raised by the monks, Maxwell's outlook is incredibly calm and patient. He can easily forgive anyone for their wrongdoings and takes him time with the things he does. His ability to wait is uncanny, and when things go wrong or there's an argument, he calmly tries to handle the situation. Any unplanned issue never comes as a surprise to him. He hardly ever becomes upset or angered in any way, and if he does he goes into a state of meditation in order to release the feelings and bring good thoughts.

Quirks and Notes

The Pan Chang Knot symbolizes the endless cycle of life and the yin-yang of existence, as well as balance and harmony. Additionally, from older traditions, knots are thought to be where gods dwell and as a result bring good luck. It is for this reason that monks would wear knots and knots are hung in temples. Knots hung in a room will drive away evil spirits and invite good fortune. Maxwell's Buddhist practices derive from Nichiren Daishonin's teachings of eternally flowing life, acceptance, wisdom, and compassion. Maxwell's memories in the form of pictures are very, very faded. He finds it hard to remember the things he once saw when he was very young. Though encouraged by the monks, Maxwell was never able to cut off his hair or beard. He still refuses to get them trimmed or cut in any way. Maxwell's sense of direction is very poor due to his being blind Although he uses them to get around and thus needs them most to see, Maxwell keeps his ears lower than the horizontal line from which they protrude. The only time he ever breaks this habit is when he's performing Tae Kwon Do, in which case they are up and pointed straight forward. Maxwell likes to meditate often and does so at least twice a dayusually at sunrise and sunset when his wings glow. Prefers his last name to be pronounced pay-tree-oh, though he likes it to be pay-tree-uht when it's used as a nickname. The nails on Maxwell's hands, which are bronze in colour, are retractable. Maxwell is not fond of fire due to the burns he received from the Oracle.

Biography
The first thing Maxwell can remember in his life is his most vivid memory; the visit to the Oracle. He had grown up in an orphanage, without a family to call his own. The caretaker told him stories of an Oracle on the mountain by their hometown, an Oracle which guarded a special treasure. The treasure was known as the WishJar and it had the power to grant any wish to whoever could take the jar and open it. However, very little was known about the Oracle and the jar as no one had ever come back from their trip up the mountain. This never deterred Maxwell, though, and he became determined to get the WishJar and open it to bring him the family he always wanted. At ten years old, Maxwell decided to attempt this task. He gathered food and supplies and ran away from the orphanage. The trek took him through treacherous mountain passes and cold snowstorms. He hardly knew if he would even make it to the top, but just as he thought he would give up, he saw the temple up above. With his last bit of strength and will, he climbed to the very top of the mountain and entered the Oracle's temple. Inside it was warm, and through openings in the wall Maxwell could see the sun rising above the clouds. Before him stood a pedestal with a glass and gold jar atop it. Above this jar burned a raging fire, almost touching the top of the jar itself. There it wasthe treasure he had been dreaming of. His nerves twisted like a knot, but Maxwell was determined. He stood before the jar. The heat of the flame burned at him, causing him to pull back in pain. But he had come too far to run now. He reached froward to grab the jar. Flames licked at his arms as he reached further and further, burning off his fur and layers of his skin. Screaming in agony, Maxwell still did not pull back. He wanted desperately to know what a real family was like. When his hands clasped the jar, a sudden rumble began to shake the temple. An arm of fire slammed into Maxwell's chest, throwing him back to the doorway of the temple. He fell onto his back, the wind in his lungs flew out of him, and he lay there sputtering and in agonizing pain. Tears welled in his eyes as heard a voice like a hundred voices in one. Your desire is strange to us, it said lowly. Maxwell continued to writhe in pain on the stone ground of the temple. The Oracle's voice-of-voices let out a laugh. You are but a child! The flames in its heart continued to crackle in the rising of the sun. The wings on Maxwell's back started to glow in a rainbow light at the touch of the sun's rays. He rolled onto his knees and clasped his chest in pain, wincing up at the flaming Oracle. Please... I just want a family...

The Oracle was silent for a moment. Then a wisp of air like a deep breath flowed through the open walls of the temple atop the mountain. The fire in the center faded in and out in the breeze, but it did not die. We have killed all those who dared reach for our treasure, child, it stated finally. The wishes of those who come here are selfish. The young Maxwell's eyes grew wide. Don't kill me! I didn't know..! He keeled over from the pain of the burns and began to gag at the agonizing stinging. ...We shall spare you, the Oracle said. Your wish, though selfish as it were, is different than those we have encountered before. In that moment, the pain of the burns on Maxwell began to subside. It was as though the temple around him was swallowing up the terrible feeling inside of him. Maxwell looked up at the glowing WishJar as it was hit with the sunlight. Th-thank you... he whispered. The burning still persisted, but at least it was tolerable now. Do not think that this will be easy, the Oracle seemed to snap. Look upon this jar, and recognize it as the last perfect image you will ever see. As it said this, Maxwell's vision began to grow blurry and unclear. But burned into his mind was the image of the glass jar edged in golden designs. It was a beautiful last sight. As time passes, you will grow blind. This is your punishment, along with your burns. Now golearn what you must about greed, and one day you may overcome this flaw. The world around the temple began to glow. Brighter and brighter the light grew until Maxwell's fading eyes could hardly handle it. He forced them closed, and in an instant the sound of a breeze and the crackling of fire became the sing-song sound of a chime, babbling water, and someone chanting. When the young anthro opened his eyes, he could only see things in a blur. There was an obvious building of browns and golds, edged on either side by trees and blossoming plants. On the porch of the building stood someone who seemed somewhat alarmed. Hello! Are you alright? The person called to Maxwell, stepping down the stairs and walking towards him. Maxwell couldn't exactly make out their face, as it was quite fuzzy to his now wounded eyed. He tried to stand, but his body felt weak from his journey and meeting with the Oracle. He fell back to his knees and began to cry. The man who had come to greet him was a monk that lived at the temple Maxwell had been sent to. He took Maxwell in and, along with the other monks, took care of the anthro child. When he was better, they gave him some clothes and allowed him to stay with them. Maxwell told his story to them. The Monks let Maxwell stay with them in the temple and began to teach them their ways. After two years Maxwell's sight was completely gone, but with the help of the Monks, a walking stick, and his strengthened sense of hearing, Maxwell was able to get around alright. He grew into Buddhism and would often sit in meditation with the monks. They taught him the ways of peace and harmony. These practices lead to the discovery of Maxwell's Chi-Overflow state, a way in which he is dramatically empowered by a Chi running through his core. The Chi also allowed him some form of vision in the sense that he could see the Chis of those around him. Soon he began to use this to his advantage as he started courses in Tae Kwon Do with some of the more active monks and Buddhist practitioners. Maxwell learned fast, and in time not only did he become a skilled master of Tae Kwon Do, but he also learned to forgive the Oracleand himselffor what had happened in the past. The time flew by, and after fifteen years with the monks, at the ripe age of 25, Maxwell left the temple and headed out to New York in order to experience life for what it was worth outside of the place he had lived in for so long. Five years in New York allowed Maxwell to understand the modern world a bit better, though he still seems a bit traditional in his way. He goes to the same Cafe every day, reads the newspaper, and meditates. Though he hasn't found a true calling other than Buddhism and Tae Kwon Do, he looks forward to the day when he is courageous and sound enough to go back to the temple and confront the Oracle one last time.

OOC Information
I made Maxwell in early March of 2013 with the intention of having an Anthro-sonasince Deiyura is not capable of being anthro, I figured I needed something to balance that. What came of it was something of a mix of my favourite things: long, blonde hair; blindness; four arms; dragonfly wings. Eventually a story popped into my head involving Buddhist monks, an oracle, and Tae Kwon Do; I had previously been quite obsessed with those things for a while. So Maxwell took the blunt of my creativity and ideas. In the end Maxwell became most of what I wanted him to be; different from my other characters in design, story, info, and destiny, and someone I could use in roleplaying as I had originally desired. I'm planning on leaving his story unfinished for this purpose, though I do know that I'll add a moment of him meeting the Oracle of the Treasured WishJar one more time.
