BEFORE & AFTE

DISCUSS THE FOLLOWING:

Why should we care if images are manipulated and changed?
They change our perspective and create a false image and a sense of reality. This is especially worrying for the younger generation who perceive this as what the world is all about and for example taking the case of a young girl seeing the image of a perfect, flawless, super skinny model and thinking why am I not that perfect? Shes beautiful, if she can be like that why cant I? and the same for boys also who do not understand the concept of that image being altered and changed and collapses their confidence and self esteem completely and leads to anxiety disorders such as depression, anorexia nervosa, bulimia in both adults and children as regardless if you are aware of the idea of air brush repeatedly several times a day you start to believe and conceive to that idea. But regardless it is essentially a lie and it is leading people to become confused and uncertain and if they can easily manipulate this then we should be very worried about what else is manipulated as our ideas, arguments and beliefs become centred around what they want us to believe hence we are seeing only what they want us to see and hence our judgement is very biased and one sides like with the news and ce3rtain bulletins.

Does this mean the Media lies all the time?

Yes. Every image behind every camera has been manipulated to the artists will. The angle, the light, the position, the time the moment the shot is snapped. It happens because we want to capture a particularly moment, feeling image, allow the viewer to see what you want them to see. Take something as trivial as taking a photo on holiday. To make a memory to want to look back and smile at, you take photos to remember your happy times when every one is smiling, the sun is out etc not when you are moody and everyone is angry.

Do we already know they may not tell the truth and therefore it doesnt matter?
Yes it does. We deserve to see things in black and white, how they are and not in a way that is blatantly lying to our face. I think we all deserve to get the facts straight. Just like if you caught someone stealing and they lied to your face saying no they thought it was theirs, just because you know you saw they do it and you know they are manipulating the truth doesnt mean you will leave and say fi ne, it does matter that they tell you the truth and justice is served and all is clear.
