That was our immediate response to the constitution debate. We believe that the rights and freedoms are not the outcome of a constitution. They are mainly the consequence of a social culture that accepts diversity and refuses governmental trial of dictating the ideal code of conduct by force. In brief, society is its own master.

Do you think its hard for young foreign or domestic actresses to pursue an acting career in Egypt?
Pursuing an acting career anywhere in the world is a mission impossible! However, Egypt is considered to be an opportunity rather than a challenge for actors, since it is the only country in the region with a real industry and a hospitable culture. Egypt has always had a welcoming atmosphere to both foreign and domestic outsiders, thus whatever struggle we endure, we are still in the right place.

Give us a general idea about drama movies and series that you are currently working on?
This year has been crazy! I have just attended the premiere of my first leading role movie at the Beirut Film Festival and I am currently preparing for its participation at the Dubai Film Festival. I am also working on a South African docudrama that features the last two and a half years of my life, along with two other girls who also come from the MENA region. This documentary, along with a new Ramadan sitcom, is at their final shooting stages. I am also reading the script of a movie based on a major bestseller but I havent approved it yet.

Women are subject of inequality around the globe! The reason why the Middle East in general is more explicit in revealing this injustice is attributed to unrevised beliefs in history and culture that make our societies practice inequality, usually with the acceptance of women themselves, with pride and conviction.

What do you think about the current regime and government?

You launched a series of YouTube video blogs dealing with political and social issues from a libertarian perspective. How did the idea first cross your mind?
I am an equalist person. I believe in any project that echoes these beliefs! I have been fighting windmills for many years but voiceless. My thoughts and beliefs were obstinate yet very unpopular. This was until I met my best friend Hassan Bedeir five years ago and found a perfect match with my beliefs, except that he had the ability to voice them in a less aggressive manner and more persuasive and convincing ways. When Hassan joined the Bassem Youssef Shows creative team over a year ago, we started to brainstorm the idea to have a spin off show that can express these thoughts together. Bedeir offered me the role in a couple of episodes in Bassem Youssefs show, where he created my online character: The mysterious person with undefined labels and big political and social ideasabout the tourism industry and the parliament.

It is premature to judge politicians after a relatively short period of reign. The existing regime seems honest and ambitious, but also inexperienced and suspicious or rejected by many parties.

Do you think that there should be universal limits for freedom of expression?

The universal limit for freedom of speech should be living with the creators conscience.

How did you manage to develop your acting skills in Egypt?

Whether in Egypt or abroad, acting workshops have always been my only addiction! I have attended many workshops in Egypt with Ahmed Kamal and Marwa Gabriel. I also read numerous books written by impressive drama and acting teachers like Michael Chekhov, Uta Hagen, Sanford Meisner, and Judith Weston. Hadi Tabal is my acting guru and Amanda Brenan is my favourite coach.

What are your criteria while choosing scripts?

My criteria for choosing scripts are simple: It must be a role with a logical back-story, it must be structured and have a dramatic purpose. Im usually the person who says no to everything, so any script that overcomes my instant no is my choice.
