Fifth Sunday of Lent March 17, 2013

As I write this (what will be this past Tuesday as you read it), the cardinals of the Church are about to enter the conclave. I suspect that by the time you read this on the weekend, we will have a new pope. Let us pray for him that he may be the voice of Christ in our Church and to our world. If I'm not here this weekend, I'll send you a postcard. If you go to www.ststephen.ws, (found on the front of the bulletin) you will be taken to our new website, which is actually a page on Facebook that I am able to update. Please note that you do NOT have to be a Facebook user to view this site. Its just the place on the web where we can host our parish online. You will find there our weekly parish bulletins, pictures & videos of parish events, and other parish information. In honor of St. Patricks Day which we celebrate during Lent, heres something that I hope will put a smile on your face A man named Paddy (short for Patrick) came from Ireland to Boston. In a very short time, he began the practice of going to the local bar after work and ordering three beers. He wanted them served to him all at once. After a few weeks the bartender asked Paddy why he insisted having all three beers served at the same time. He explained that when he lived in Ireland, he and his two brothers always got together after work for a beer. He wanted to keep the spirit of their getting together even though they still lived across the sea. A few months went by and one day Paddy came in and ordered just two beers. The bartender was concerned and asked if something happened to one of his brothers. Paddy said "No, it's nothing like that. You see it's Lent now and I've given up beer for Lent."

If you would like to join this happy gathering, please call the parish office and we will get the required information to you. If you have surpassed your fiftieth anniversary, you are of course invited to celebrate with all of the other good folks who will be worshipping and giving thanks together with our Bishop. Please prayerfully consider following Jesus in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi. We, of Solanus Casey Fraternity, are a community of faithful men and women practicing our Roman Catholic faith by praying the liturgy of the hours twice daily, wearing the Tau cross, studying the ways of St. Francis and applying those ways to our everyday life. The spiritual benefits we reap are many. We gather the 2nd Thursday of every month at St. Stephens at 7:00p.m. For more information, or a ride to attend one of our meetings, Call Carol or Rich Cooke 419-945-3038. Why was Jesus condemned to death? Jesus was a man of peace, but he posed a dilemma: He offered an unprecedented challenge to the traditional Judaism of the time. He forgave sins, which God alone can do; He acted as though the Sabbath law was not absolute; and was accused of being a false prophet. All those were crimes punishable under the Law by death. His death relates to all of us, St. Francis of Assisi wrote, And even the demons did not crucify Him, but you, together with them, have crucified Him and are still crucifying Him by delighting in vices and sins.
