Because it does not contain preservatives, it can get stale quite quickly. I heard someone say that
they store their bread in the microwave, so when my old microwave gave up the ghost, I turned it into a breadbox. Because it seals so well, the bread stays fresh much longer! Diane L.

PRASAD PROVIDES COLORECTAL CANCER EDUCATION Coudersport, PA- March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and do you know that colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States? The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2013 approximately 144,000 people will be diagnosed and 51,000 will die from colorectal cancer in the US. The complete causes of colorectal cancer are unknown. However some of the factors listed below are linked to an increased risk. Age - Colorectal cancer is more likely to occur in people over the age of 50. Polyps - These are abnormal growths in the colon or rectum. They are relatively common in people over age 50. Detecting and removing polyps help prevent colorectal cancer. Personal history - A person who has already had colorectal cancer is at an increased risk of developing it a second time. Women with a history of uterine, ovarian or breast cancer have a higher chance of developing colorectal cancer. Family history - Those with close relatives (parents, siblings, or children) with colorectal cancer have increased risk. Ulcerative colitis or Crohns colitis - These conditions can cause inflammation in the colon and increase risk of colorectal cancer. Diet, Exercise and Smoking may play a role in colorectal cancer With regular screenings, colon cancer can be detected early when treatment is most effective. Colon cancer can be prevented by finding and removing polyps before they become cancerous. Methods of screening include: Colonoscopy (considered the gold standard): This is performed starting at age 50 and repeated every ten years for those without increased risk. This procedure is performed under sedation. Flexible Sigmoidoscopy: Examines the rectum and lower part of the colon. This is performed every five years starting at age 50. Double-Contrast Barium Enema: This procedure assists with identifying polyps or tumors on x-rays and is performed every five years starting at age 50. Fecal Occult Blood Tests: This test can detect small amounts of blood in stool and is performed once a year starting at age 50. For more information, speak with your primary care provider about when to begin screening for colorectal cancer, what tests to have and the benefits and risks. Its that time when happy couples hear music...but, before the bells, before the prelude to the wedding march is heard...comes the prelude to all that will make your wedding day ideal. Look to the advertisers in this special wedding planner to find a world of ways to make your special day a dream come true! Dont Forget Nana And Papa

WHATS THAT ON YOUR LAPEL? By Ann Bare Traditionally the groom, groomsmen and male family members of the wedding couple wear a floral boutonniere on their lapel, but times change-and so do boutonnieres. The word boutonniere looks difficult to pronounce since its actually a French word; however, think BOOT-IN-EAR, and the word will just flow off the tongue (just make sure there are no French-speaking individuals within earshot). Boutonniere actually means buttonhole in French-the site of the mens floral contribution to the ceremony. However, as traditional styles go by the wayside in wedding planning, so does the traditional flower/leaf/ ribbon/pearl-ended straight pin assembly. Free-style wedding dcor calls for freestyle boutonnieres. Consider these options: For a seasidethemed wedding, a group of unique shells or a small starfish with a clasp glued to the back For a Fourth of July or other patrioticthemed wedding, a
By Tresa Erickson From groomsmen and bridesmaids to ringbearers and flower girls, family members often play a pivotal role in weddings. Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, cousinsnearly everyone has a role to play but Nana and Papa. Sure, they attend the festivities, walk down the aisle and sit up front with the rest of the family, but other than that, they have little to do. As head of the family, dont they deserve more? Here are some ideas to include and honor Nana and Papa in your wedding. While younger family members are often asked to be in the wedding, that does not mean you cannot ask your grandparents to step in. Perhaps your grandfather would like to be an usher and welcome and seat all of the guests. Perhaps your grandmother would like to show off her chops and be your pianist. Heck, your grandparents might get a kick out of walking down the aisle together as a groomsman and bridesmaid. If your grand-
parents would prefer to stay out of the limelight, you should respect their wishes and find some other way to honor them. Here are some suggestions: Wear a replica of your grandmothers wedding dress. Include your grandparents names in your wedding program. Give your grandparents a boutonniere and a corsage to wear. Place wedding photos of your grandparents and parents at the reception. Seat your grandparents, along with your parents, at a special table at the reception. Tell a story about your grandparents at the reception. Have a special song played for your grandparents at your reception and ask them to dance with you. If your grandparents are deceased, you may still honor them at your wedding with photos and letters. You may also ask your officiant to say a special prayer in their name. Grandparents are to be cherished. Make sure yours know how much they mean to you by including them in your wedding.

Feel free to follow these (or be relieved that you dont have to): According to Brides magazine, in medieval times, onlookers would tear off a piece of the brides clothing for good luck. Brides then began wearing pieces of ribbon to make the process easier. Shoes tied to wedding cars symbolize that the bride has now become property of the groom - a throwback to Anglo-Saxon times. If a cat sneezes before the day of your wedding, its supposed to bring good luck to your marriage. Throwing rice at a couple symbolizes fertility. CUOMO RECOGNIZES MARCH 20TH FRESH AIR FUND DAY In recognition of The Fresh Air Funds 137th summer of bringing together New York City children and volunteer host families in New York, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has recognized March 20th FRESH AIR FUND DAY throughout the state. This summer, The Fresh Air Fund will once again allow thousands of inner-city boys and girls to escape the hot, noisy New York City streets to enjoy the simple joys of summertime fun in the country! Families who participate in The Fresh Air Funds Volunteer Host Family Program open their hearts and homes to New York City children for one or two weeks or more in the summer. Sharing your home and the surrounding community with a Fresh Air youngster can be the beginning of a worthwhile and meaningful experience - for both the child and your family, says Jenny Morgenthau, Executive Director of The Fresh Air Fund. This year, we are looking for new host families in Central New York to celebrate our 137th summer and give children a chance to run barefoot through the grass or gaze at the star-filled skies. Volunteers simply want to share what they have with city children and introduce them to the joys of suburban or country life. You dont have to spend a lot of money or do anything fancy. The children can just play in the backyard and enjoy just being kids, says Donna, a Fresh Air host. Families find hosting so rewarding that more than 65 percent of all Fresh Air children are reinvited visit the same host families year after year. First-time Fresh Air visitors are six to 12 years old and Fresh Air hosts range from young families to grandparents. All it takes is the willingness to welcome a New York City child to your community.

Allow your plant to wilt a bit before repotting. This helps prevent breaking of the fragile leaves, swollen and turgid from water. Now gather the supplies you will need - several sheets of newspaper, a clean pot (plastic is preferable) with a radius of about 1/3 the radius of your plant and good drainage; a paring knife; your plant; and some potting soil expressly for African violets. If you wish to use regular potting mix, use 1/2 potting mix, 1/4 perlite, and 1/4 vermiculite, as violets like a welldraining mix. Spread the newspaper to facilitate cleanup. Dampen your soil lightly so it holds a crumbly ball when pressed in your hand. Gently remove your plant from its pot. Inspect the roots. If you have any darkened or diseased roots, you need to take other measures. Search root rot on the internet or in your library for remedies. If your roots are healthy and full, study the leaves. The bottom two or three rows of leaves should be removed. Also any broken, water spotted, unsightly, or dried leaves should come off. This leaves an elongated neck on your plant. With your fingernail or your paring knife, gently scrape away the brown crust on the neck until a nice green surface is exposed. Then using your knife, cut off half of the root ball from the bottom. Put a bit of soil in the bottom of your clean pot so that when you place your violet on the soil surface, the crown is above the lip of the pot. Fill in around the root ball and under the lower leaves until about 1/4 away from the lip of the pot, getting soil almost up to the level of the lower leaves but without covering them. Tap your pot gently on the table to settle the soil. Dont push it down with your fingers too firmly as the roots need air. Water lightly and you are finished! Remember, over watering is the main cause of African violet problems. They do not like to have wet feet nor do they like to be bone dry. Wait until the surface of the soil is dry and then water with a diluted violet fertilizer. With proper watering and fresh soil, your African violet will be thanking you in no time with an abundance of flowers again. fb

GROWING PERFECT AFRICAN VIOLETS By: Mary Harris, Master Gardener (CCE) Cornell Cooperative Extension African violets are one of the most popular flowering houseplants and the reason is obvious. They are floriferous almost continuously. So why is your violet going through a down time right now with prolonged flowerless days? Perhaps its time to repot your plant. Repotting is a must for violets at least once per year. One reason is that your violet may have outgrown its pot. This is good news, as it means that you are caring for your plant so well that it is growing nicely. Another reason could be that the soil is tired and needs to be replaced. If you are attentive to your plant, you have fed it well over the year. This results in an excess of salts in the soil and a depletion of minerals used by the violet.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when choosing a credit card rewards program. There are three basic types of rewards programs: frequent flyer miles, points based and cash back. Frequent flyer miles for airline tickets can be valuable but difficult to redeem. Basically, as you use your credit card, you receive a certain amount of points to be used for airline tickets. Wellsville 3494 Andover Rd. 585-593-4063 Restrictions, of course, apply. Some airlines may have blackout dates. Some may restrict the amount of seats you can purchase or require you to book your flight far in advance. You may also be stuck paying for surcharges and other miscellaneous charges. Another option is a points based program. As with the flyer miles, you accumulate points as you spend money. These points can then be used to purchase merchandise, usually through a catalog. merchandise may be priced too high or might not be the best quality. Finally, there is the cashback program. You put X amount of money on your credit card and you get X amount back. Before committing to any of these programs, there are several things to consider. As with any contract, you must read the fine print. Does the program require a higher interest rate? Is there an annual fee? This is where you will need to sit down and do the math. You must make sure the interest you carry and any fees involved are worth what you are getting. If you carry a balance on your card, the interest charges may negate any rewards you receive. For many people, credit card rewards programs are advantageous. Just be sure you cover all your bases and make sure the program you select will be a good fit for you. You dont want to end up paying too much for a stuffed giraffe.

NOTICE
As you know, we run many reader ads for government auctions, job positions, earn money at home, cash loans, credit cards, etc. Most of these ads come through state and national ad networks. Most of them are selling directories or listings of where to APPLY FOR what is advertised. This information may be available at less cost elsewhere. While these ads are screened where possible, we have no way of verifying the authenticity of their claims or the value of their product. The buying decision must be yours. If you have problems with any of these advertisers, please let us know and we will attempt to get you a refund. Most of the companies we have checked will refund their fees to unsatisfied customers. Read the ads carefully. Some charge a fee, as noted in the ad, directly to your phone bill when you call them. Once again, we cant verify claims for every ad. Please consider their offer and make a voluntary and reasonable buying decision. Moneysaver Advertising

Reader Advisory: the National Trade Association we belong to has purchased the above classifieds. Determining the value of their service or product is advised by this publication. In order to avoid misunderstandings, some advertisers do not offer employment but rather supply the readers with manuals, directories and other materials designed to help their clients establish mail order selling and other businesses at home. Under NO circumstance should you send any money in advance or give the client your checking, license ID, or credit card numbers. Also beware of ads that claim to guarantee loans regardless of credit and note that if a credit repair company does business only over the phone its illegal to request any money before delivering its service.
