Why NTU
Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, is one of the most unique cities in the Chinese speaking world. It is not only for its 400-year history, but also for its modernity, democracy and free atmosphere. NTU Past, Present and Future


National Taiwan University (NTU) was founded by the Japanese in 1928 as Taihoku (Taipei) Imperial University. After World War II, the ROC government resumed the administration of Taihoku Imperial University, reorganized it and renamed it "National Taiwan University" in 1945. Currently, the university has 11 colleges, 54 undergraduate departments, and 99 graduate institutes offering 98 Master and 88 PhD programs. The number of students reached a total of 32,055 in 2006, including those from the division of Continuing Education & Professional Development. The ratio of students registering for Bachelors, Masters and PhD programs is 4:2:1. The total number of faculty members is 3054, among them, 973 are full-time professors. The number of international students is more than 400, coming from more than 50 different countries all over the world. In order to promote international competitiveness, NTU is actively expanding its international intake, extending more partnerships with top

Academics
The 11 colleges of the university are: College of Liberal Arts, College of Science, College of Social Sciences, College of Medicine, College of Engineering, College of Bio-Resources & Agriculture, College of Management, College of Public Health, College of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, College of Law, and College of Life Science. In addition to these colleges, research centers at NTU are also dedicated to academic development; there are national research centers as well as first tier research units. By participating in research projects conducted by professors, students also have the chance to carry out researches with support from the research centers. The national research centers at NTU are: Earthquake Engineering Research Center, Ocean Research Center, Nano Electromechanical System Research Center, Humanities Research Center and Disaster Research Center. Campus Location and Area


The total area of NTU is about 1% of the total territory of Taiwan. It is mainly distributed between the Main Campus in Gong-guan, Taipei, the College of Law on Hsu-chou Road, the College of Medicine Campus and the affiliated NTU hospital on Jen-ai Road, the Experimental Farm at An-keng, the Experimental Forest and Highland Farm at Nan-tou, the Yi-lan Campus, the Hsin-chu Campus, and the Yun-lin Campus. Among them, the Main Campus, Law Campus, and Medicine Campus are the main teaching campuses located in the center of Taipei city. The rest are mainly for research and experiment purposes. The following is a brief introduction to the Main Campus: On-campus Environment Main Campus Like a green park situated in the metropolitan Taipei City, the main campus enjoys the great privilege of tranquility and nature. Although

Both the Main Library (1998) and the Sports Center (2001) are newly built, and a campus-wide wireless network connection has also been installed. Main Library There are several libraries on different campuses with a total collection of 3 million volumes. The Main Library provides books, periodicals, pamphlets, ancient books and audiovisual materials in a wide range of fields. For example, there are about 2,600 kinds of periodicals, more than 100 newspapers from all over the world and more than 30,000 electronic materials. The volumes of ancient and rare books amount to 50,000. At present, the Main Library owns the largest collection in Taiwan. The Main Library has been designated as one of the official repositories of government publications and it maintains agreements to exchange publications with over 2,000 academic and research institutions in over 60 countries. Sports Center The Sports Center is equipped with various modern facilities, such as a main court, a general court, an indoor swimming pool, a gym, a table tennis room, a squash court, a martial arts room, a dance room, an aerobic room, a judo room and an international conference hall. It satisfies students needs and interests. Computer and Information Networking Center (C&INC) The C&INC offers services in E-mail account application, Webmail maintenance, computer courses, and classrooms for distance education. The center is also in charge of the entire campus network, including the dormitory network, wireless network, TANet/I1, Tanet2/I2, NTU Proxy, NTU Net News, ADSL, VPN and Dial-up network connection. Off-campus Environment Taipei city is surrounded by the Tanshui and Keelung Rivers. There are highly concentrated highway and railway networks, and a convenient Mass Rapid Transit System (MRT). NTU is easily accessible from all corners of the city. The famous Yangmingshan National Park in northern Taipei is about one hour away by car. Taipei offers its inhabitants the convenience of metropolitan civilization as well as the relaxed atmosphere of nature.

. Introduction of the Agricultural Economics Master Program


Program Overview
The Agricultural Economics Master Program is a multifaceted effort of the Department of Agricultural Economics, the College of Bio-Resources and Agriculture, National Taiwan University and Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF). The program is under the Graduate Institute of Agricultural Economics. Agricultural development is the crucial factor for a countrys broad -based development, especially for the developing countries. The unique experience of agricultural development in Taiwan can be used as a reference and model for these countries. Students learning agricultural economics expertise and agri-business management skills throughout the program will be well prepared to engage in entry-level management, agricultural production, marketing, and finance positions offered by private firms as well as public sector related to agriculture. The program will also enhance students grasp of important issues and problems of agriculture, which in turn helps foster their potential for leadership in agricultural policy and agribusiness management.

Scope of Curriculum
The curriculum is grouped into four major categories: Agricultural Policy, Institutions and Regulations; Agricultural Marketing, Trade and Consumption; Production Economics and Management; and Resources and Environmental Economics. The courses include Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Trade, Agricultural Policy Analysis, Agricultural Development, Agricultural Marketing, Efficiency and Productivity Analysis, Applied Microeconomics, Advanced Macroeconomics etc. Students are required to complete 31 credits including six credits of thesis.

Degree Conferral
Graduate students will be awarded a degree of Master of Science from Dept. of Agricultural Economics, College of Bio-resource and Agricultural, National Taiwan University after completing the require courses and a Master thesis.

. Qualification
Applicants must hold a bachelors degree in fields related to Agricultural Economics at foreign universities and colleges approved by the Taiwan Ministry of Education. Applicants are except to equip with basic economics and mathematic concepts. Applicants from countries where English is not the native language, or those who have completed their bachelors degree at a non-English speaking academic institution, is required to take the TOEFL or provide English-proficiency verifications. All materials must be forwarded by the ROC (Taiwan) Embassy /Representative Office to National Taiwan University.

THE ORIENTATION INSTITUTION WILL REQUIRE A FURTHER HIV TEST AFTER HE/SHE ARRIVES IN ROC (TAIWAN). THE ONE WITH POSITIVE TEST RESULT WILL BE REJECTED AND SENT BACK HOME IMMEDIATELY.
