The Sefer Yetzirah identifies Ain Sof (pictured right) as the first sefirah of the Tree of Life. It excludes Malkut as a sefirah because Malkut embodies the World of Assiah. Although the Sefer Yetzirah includes the sphere of Tifaret in its scheme, it doesnt count it as a sefirah. Instead Tifaret is identified as a mysterious central component called the Holy Temple.

The three mother letter pathways (pictured below right) extend from Keter to Daat; Daat to Tifaret; Tifaret to Yesod. They form the Middle Pillar of the Tree and symbolize cosmic forces flowing invisibly beneath the surfacelike sap flowing through its trunk and branches.
