I pray you had a meaningful and transformative Easter. I pray you all experienced our Resurrected Lord in a deep and meaningful way this Lent. I pray you are invigorated to go out into this world and live the life of Easter people; full of promise and hope! One of the many things I love about Easter is the intentional focus it has on the understanding of new life. With Easter, the time of preparation has passed. Christ has faced his temptations in the desert, victoriously. Christ has walked among the people revealing the true meaning of forgiveness, grace, and mercy to those who would listen. He has lived a life in relationship with people showing them, modeling for them, what the love of his father, what the love of God, looks like when lived out in its entirety. Christ has felt the fear of death, found strength in God to die a determined death, and with the power of God, has risen in victory over death. And because of that, he has changed this world in so many countless ways! His new life also means a new life for each of us. No longer are we bound to this plane as our only existence. No longer are we left to our own devices to find forgiveness through the practice of sacrifice. We have been freed! We have been given the opportunity to accept the gift of grace, the free gift of salvation. All of us have been granted the chance to spend eternity in the presence of the one, true, living God. Folks, that is the good news. That is the basis for the hope and joy we all can experience with the celebration of Easter. The die has been cast and now it is up to us. We are Easter people. We are the ones called to forego our own wishes and desires and follow those of God. We are the ones created in his image, to spread the promise of his love and care to those that may not have heard it, heard and forgot it, or have rejected it outright. We are the ones, by the public profession of our faith in Jesus Christ and the empty tomb, who have been sent to use our divinely given spiritual gifts, to build the Kingdom of God, on this earth in the here and now. We can do it. When we live together, love each other, and allow all of our gifts to grow and work in unison, we can do it. I encourage you, as we march on to Pentecost, to do just that. Find a way, find a means, where you can live out this calling. Where you can allow others to see the way God has worked within you, to bring about his Kingdom. Together, with the power of God, we can change this world. Blessings on you Easter people,

Prayer serves as the backbone of the church. It is what supports all our efforts of ministry. In that spirit, you are invited to hold these persons in your prayers and thoughts. Just as the Spirit needs healing, so does the body. The two, it seems, go together in Gods plan.

CONNECTIONAL GIVING

Apportionment giving financially underwrites United Methodist ministry & mission beyond the local church. When we give our offering, so our congregation can pay its apportionments, we give to these causes: World Service Fund; Africa University Fund; Ministerial Education Fund; Black College Fund; Episcopal Fund; Interdenominational Cooperation Fund and General Administration Fund. For more complete information on these areas, please feel free to pick-up the booklet, Why We Apportion in the Church Office. We do send 10% of our monthly income toward apportionments; however, this does not equal the amount needed to make our full payment for the year. Please continue to help us reach our goals. Thank you, Louise Cox, Interpreter of Connectional Giving

THANK YOU Thank you Chancel Choir and the congregation for the much appreciated card with all your signatures. COMMITTEE SPOTLIGHT

This month, we are continuing our committee spotlight as we turn to the Church Council. The Church Council is the group charged with the planning and implementing of a program of nurture, outreach, witness, and resources for our congregation. This is also the group that is responsible for evaluating our ongoing mission and ministry endeavors. When we gather, once every other month, we hear about the plans and direction of our various ministries and committees and offer suggestions, when asked. We seek to support and nurture each other and provide an atmosphere for growth as we work together for a common goal of serving Christ by learning, leading, and loving. This committee is generally made up of the various chairs of our different ministries and committees. However, other people can be added by a Charge Conference action. People serving on the Church Council remain on this committee as long as they are the chair for the group they represent. This committee is an open committee and any member of the congregation can attend a Church Council meeting, hear what is discussed and offer an opinion about a relevant matter; but cannot vote. Next month, we will spotlight our Staff Parish Relations Committee. All of the officers of each committee can be found on our Lay Leadership List located in the Office or in the Narthex of the Sanctuary.

HELPING HANDS FOUNDATION Helping Hands helps rebuild the lives of abused & displaced people in our community, mainly women & children. We provide housing & assist with food, clothes, medical, transportation, jobs, counseling, education grants & a Bible-based life improvement program. Helping Hands is a 501(3) charity serving the people of Ocala/Marion County. Resident Spotlight: Carrie & her son, Jahzian, came to Helping Hands homeless, confused & fearful. Her past was tragic...including her dads suicide when she was 14, her moms abuse of alcohol & drugs & her mom being killed last year. When she came seeking help we were touched by her sincerity, transparency & desire to build a better life. We gladly took her in. Today, she has a home, caring friends & just received a job at the courthouse. Carrie is committed to building a better life for herself and her child...and told us she is very thankful & glad to have a safe place to call home. Your financial support enables us to provide the resources our families need. You can help by making a monetary donation, donate to our consignment & thrift stores, employ our moving service or handyman service, or volunteer. Additional information is available online at www.helpinghandsocala.org.
