GPR: The VIY series ground penetrating radar (GPR) is used for location and analysis of underground anomalies using electromagnetic pulse radiation. Operation principle of the GPR is based on surveying media illumination by electromagnetic impulses with following echoes analysis because of impulse reflection or scattering by various discontinuities. The GPR is suitable for searching of both metal and dielectric targets (stratiform structures, pipes, voids, building constructions etc.).

Pipe and Cable Locators have both a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter induces an electric charge to an object which is detected by the receiver. The transmitter is like a radio station that's putting out a signal which is picked up by the receiver. Just like radio stations, transmitters use different frequencies. Schonstedt offers two basic types of pipe and cable locators: The XTpc: This is the most portable pipe & cable locator with an expandable and retractable body and a pocket-sized transmitter. It is made in two frequencies. The XTPC is the best choice when:

Locating is done infrequently and simplicity is a plus The excavation project is medium to small size Distances are relatively short (under 300 ft) The environment is rural and less congested

The XTPC is made in two frequencies. In general, 82 kHz is useful in tracing gas and water lines while 33 kHz is a better choice for tracing electrical lines. The XTPC has a choice of sonde or passive cathodic mode. You select a single frequency before purchase. The Trace Master II: The multi frequency Trace Master II is Schonstedt most versatile and robust locating tool, and it is the best choice when:

There is significant volume of locating work The underground environment is congested Excavation projects are medium to large size Terrain and/or soil type are challenging Distances are long (over 300 feet)

There are several Trace Master II options. The top of the line model offers four active frequencies (575Hz, 8kHz, 455kHz), and two passive frequencies (50Hz,

60Hz; optional sonde or cathodic frequency) with a radio link to change frequencies from the receiver like a remote. Less costly models offer four manual frequencies, single frequencies, passive frequencies only, and no radio link. Virtually any combination of these features is available. Both the XTPC and the Trace Master II have direction arrows, signal strength and depth readouts, as well as "continuity" or "good connection" indications on the transmitter.
