Women. The book of proverbs starts with a father addressing his sons, a king addressing his princes. You are guided from the very beginning: the instruction from your fatherdo not abandon it! (Proverbs 1:1 Shapiro). At the conclusion we hear the love-inspired warnings of a mother. The wisdom journey is bracketed the teaching of a father and mother. Throughout Proverbs we encounter women or the metaphor of the woman. Women have power. They have a mysterious, powerful primal connection to man. In proverbs 30 the writer notes as one of the things beyond his comprehension the passionate love of two young people (Prov. 30:19). Woman was made by God for man. The man/woman connection was orchestrated and ordained by God. God was quite satised with 5/6th of creation. He declared it good. But when he made man he couldnt call it good. In fact He said that it was not good that man should be alone. It is out of that divine truth that God creates the woman to answer, to satisfy mans impending loneliness. She was part of him. She was ordained by God for him. She was the place he was to nd his wholeness.

After creation the intimacy between man and woman is further ingrained in man for he is born of the woman. God took the woman out of the man. Now every man is taken out of the woman. The rst heartbeat you hear is hers, not yours. The rst milk you drink is hers. The rst safe harbor you have is within her womb. The rst place you kick is within her. Men have a special connection with women. Women have great power over men. The Wise Mother The hand that rocks cradle, rules the world. She bore you. The fact that she gave you life and entrance into the world is powerful. Teaching you to walk. Teaching you to talk. Feeding you at her breast. Nurturing you. Your mother has a special knowledge of you. She has a DNA connection with you that transcends the norm. This is what gives her power and credibility with you. She raised you. Wise mothers take it upon themselves to give you the character skills youll need to survive. They seek to lay the groundwork for a great life. She vowed all her love to you. For the most part, Mama is the rst place we come face to face with unconditional love. It is out of this connection that she says, I have and always will have your best interest at heart. My advice is not generated by anything other than a desire to see you blessed. She has a right to be heard. She says: Dont be carried away by passion. Dont be enslaved by power. Dont surrender your self-control to addiction. Speak for those who cant speak for themselves.
