General Visual Style:

The general style of the film will be quite ominous and low lit but will also contain a number of subtle, usually vibrant, colours such as a range of pinks, blues, reds and possibly greens. The stylistic design level is quite high in terms of visual approach with the use of small lights, such as fairy lights, which will accompany the main tungsten and moonlight balanced frames throughout the film. This will display a looming in the shadow type mood for each individual scene while maintaining a flow of the chosen palette. A reference point I have selected is the Showtime TV Series Dexter. 1. The interior should not quite match the exterior. They should have a contrast. The interior I pictured as somewhat classic, with the exterior a modern/suburban look. 2. Another idea is that they live in a big, mansion style house possibly inherited from Jeffs parents. 1. Exterior:

Location 2: Jazz Bar

^ This place is unfortunately located in NYC. But these images can be used as a good reference point to an idea of the low light feeling and mood that I want to capture in this scene. The pinks in these images have a really nice look and the contrast of blues and a small amount of tungsten balanced lights would look fantastic on camera.

I love the style of the heavy, almost engulfing, blue palette on the main stage, with the contrast of yellows and oranges on the centralised characters. (Yes, the video clip is in Italian, but it is the best quality video I could find). Screenshots:

Location 3: Art Gallery

The art gallery is described as: A modern stern building with odd architecture on the inside. A post-modern feel, vintage mixed with contemporary. Higher light than other scenes, a strong emphasis on Lindsays work. Some examples:

Location 4: Shed
I pictured the shed as wooden and red (I would prefer wood, but tin is also an option). Large enough for a kill room, but not over burdening the yard.

Character Name: Lindsay Age: 29 Ethnic Background: Caucasian Hair: Brown, naturally long, but kept short. Eye Colour: Blue Clothing Journey: Khakis, cardigans, collared shirts. Generally an indie look. Apron, paint clothes during painting scenes. Very self-conscious about how he looks when going out into public. Examples:

Key characteristics: Self-conscious but determined to succeed. Lindsay is a troubled individual that has let an obsession completely overtake his life and everyday thought. He lives to find the perfect painting and continually fails in his attempts. Lindsay self-harms in order to cope with the intense feeling of failure and self-loathing. He is ashamed of this problem though, and conceals it at all costs. Lindsay is an introverted character. He prefers not to be in social situations and is quite awkward when he is.

Key characteristics: Jeff is an extroverted character. He is confident in social situations and has the ability to replicate normal human behaviour to a tee. Jeff is a narcissist, he only cares for things that concern himself, and external factors do not interest him. He engages in everyday behaviour to mask his true self. Jeff is a serial killer who has an extreme lack of empathy. He shows no remorse for his victims. Jeff has a strong ability to manipulate people into doing things they thought they would never do, often leading them to his kill room. This manipulation is accompanied by his charm and charisma; he can talk his way into and out of pretty much anything.
