ESL performance in reading motivation and reading comprehension in democratic and autoritharian contexts ( Commitment and competency are

essential for educational process. Readers who are intrinsically motivated may completely involve with reading process, enjoy reading experience and reading for long period of time. The students could see the significant of reading if the content of the reading materials are suitable with their interest and at the same time it promotes interesting and challenging idea (eg. Reading comprehension involves prediction, complicated materials) Hence, the students could improve motivation and reading comprehension through democratic context. Tc. Could give more space and opportunity for the students to choose the reading materials and reflect on the content and then express and share their thoughts towards the idea. However, majority of tasks in classroom are neither fascinating nor pleasurable, tc. May choose to use extrinsic motivation strategy in order to have a successful learning. Thus, st. will have to read in authoritarian contexts in order to achieve success in study. Either they like it or not they have to read and study to learn about the topic in the syllabus. Then, they could apply the knowledge in exercises and exam.

Rational of the study is To study the relationship between the classroom environment with students motivation. (authoriatarian vs democratic classroom)

Democratic context Freedom is associated with formal learning. There is more flexibility in consideration with applying policies conservatively

Authoritarian context Inflexibility is associated with educational context. It consists of strict rules and tc. Centeredness.

Target group (limitation) 62 sUndergraduate students in Language School Teacher in Msia (31 st in democratic class, 31 st. in autho. Class) There was no control over external variables influence subjects performance 10 weeks reading class set up final exam. (test preparation test administration data analysis stages)

Conclusion Educational planner, curriculum developer should consider current educational trend, factors that influence reading skills development (goals for instruction, development of strategic readers develop comprehension skill) Increase st. reading experience meaningful instruction through vocabulary development Education setting types influence reading motivation + comprehension Analysis of data can be concluded that st. will be motivated and grow in term of (emotion, socialization + academic) when they are hopeful and confident in learning condition (enjoyable, fun and relax surrounding) Discuss reading goals with the st. Allow st. to read independently

Deterioration of st. discipline influences st. achievement in curriculum in SMK, XYZ, Kota Kinabalu. (Hanasia Bt Danim) Objective is to determine the affecting factors that influenced to the deterioration of students discipline and the effects of it to the students achievement in curriculum. This research was conducted in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan XYZ, Kota Kinabalu. This research has utilized questionnaires as research instrument involving 30 respondents.The research found that there are five factors influence the deterioration of students discipline which is family problem, peer influence, students attitude, environment and teachers attitude factor shows a significant relation with academic achievement. The research also found that the deterioration of students discipline cause a negative effects to students learning and low academic achievement. Based on the findings of this research, some suggestions for some areas have been made for future research and recommendations of the ways to solve the problems are documented. Problem : the lack of discipline among students is going out of control among our students in Malaysia. Purpose : to determine the affecting factors that influenced to the deterioration of discipline among the students in SMK. XYZ Kota Kinabalu. The second purpose is to investigate the effects of the deterioration of students discipline to their academic or curriculum performance. Recommendation for school/ tc.: School should emphasize on giving a continuous motivation to discipline problem students, to strictness school rules and regulations, and administer loving school campaign. develop a close relationship with the parents. Teachers also should give a systematic advice and good examples for students in the development of well behaviour. Conclusion: Based on my research study, it can conclude that there was a significant relationship between the deterioration of student discipline to their achievement in curriculum. the deterioration of students discipline will cause negative effects to students learning and academic achievement.

it is necessary to theoretically studying and empirically researching strategies to intervene in order to eliminate or, at least, reduce causes and factors producing lack of discipline and of learning in our educational system. Good discipline occurs best in a democratic school and classroom. Good discipline cannot occur in autocratic or permissive classrooms. Almost all students have a compelling desire to feel they are valued members of the class. When students are unable to gain a sense of belonging in the class, they often turn to the mistaken goals of attention, power, revenge, and inadequacy.
