THE HAGSTROM HISTORY

I n 1 9 5 8 , S w e d i s h - b a s e d H a g s t r o m s t a r t e d m a n u f a c t u r i n g e l e c t r i c g u i t a r s . Hagstrom has a long history of building guitars. Hagstroms production of acoustic steel string and classical guitars date back as early as the 1940s. In 1958, the first Hagstrom electric guitars were built and covered in sparkle and pearloid celluloid, baring stamped metal logos. An ingenious use of materials previously used for the production of accordions. Over the years Hagstrom further developed the selection of instruments with hollow body guitars, such as Vikings and Jimmys. Later in time, the Swede and Super Swede became the legendary flagship Hagstrom guitar models. A new line of electric basses which included the Swede, Viking, and the legendary H8 (the worlds first 8-string bass) became instant successes. The Hagstrom Select, Vintage and Ultralux series recapture many of the original Hagstrom features, are built to the same stringent quality standards and feature many of the same unique tones that made Hagstrom the legend that it is. All models rely on a unique sourcing and manufacturing concept. Both the raw materials and hardware for our guitars, come from first rate suppliers from all over the world. Each instrument is carefully built and assembled, where tone and quality are of absolute top priority. The result is a stunning range of instruments that look and sound almost identical to the originals. This may come as no surprise knowing that they are built using the original machines or exact replicas of the machines used to build the legends of yore. Only thanks to this approach was it possible to keep using those time-tested bridges, tailpieces and even the original Hagstrom logo. Even the machine heads, albeit with slightly smaller and thus handier buttons, are back, as is the legendary H-Expander truss rod. But there are also new features, like the Resinator wood fingerboard whose resonance and sustain qualities are far superior to anything ebony or rosewood can offer. Quality and expertise are fused into exceptional instruments whose price tags are nevertheless bound to come as a pleasant surprise to musicians. When you purchase a Hagstrom guitar, you are guaranteed that your investment is a result of many years of special research and unique development. Each hardware part and specific detail of a Hagstrom guitar is scrutinized, to provide you with an instrument that we ultimately aim to make as your musical companion throughout life.

THE BASICS

H-Expander
All Hagstrom electric guitars and basses include our patented H-Expander truss rod. Providing tension at both ends and running the entire length of the neck, the rigid yet light-weight alloy truss rod allows for a very low action and thin neck, two factors that were instrumental in earning Hagstrom its reputation as the worlds fastest playing guitar. The H-Expander truss rod does not only provide ultimate stability of the neck, but also plays a hand in providing you with the unique Hagstrom tone. Longer sustain and a sharper attack, are a couple of the sonic characteristics that the H-Expander adds to the tonal essence of Hagstrom.

The Foundations
Resinator Wood is a wood composite material that is homogeneous in nature and is more stable than any standard wood product. It is the perfect fingerboard material in that it eliminates wolf tones or hot spots. It has an articulate sound simular to high quality Ebony, but without any of the problems associated with Ebony. It provides an stable and clear tone, and also adds higher overtones and harmonics which uniquely details each note played. Like our H-Expander truss rod, our Resinator wood also plays a major part in producing the special Hagstrom tone. Hagstrom uses only the finest select tone woods and figured wood stocks to enhance the sound and beauty of each instrument. Timber is sourced from all over the world to help create a sonically and visually inspiring instrument.

Ensuring accurate tuning, Hagstroms own 18:1 and 15:1 gear ratio machine heads are each used throughout our Hagstrom models. Beluga, Viking and HB series basses feature a 17:1 gear ratio where the FXB series basses feature a 22:1 gear ratio in an open gear format for accurate tuning.
