Officially, Texas has just one small Indian casino, the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle near Eagle Pass. But Texas gamblers venturing north to Indian casinos have helped Oklahoma become the No. 3 gambling state in the nation, with nearly $3.6 billion in gaming revenue in 2011, according to the latest Casino City study.

The bottom line

We have 1,000 more hotel rooms under construction. We really are putting emphasis on our ability to attract people as a resort destination. Oklahoma gaming is overwhelmingly dependent on Texas patrons. The primary reason for the continued growth is the proximity of some of the facilities to the huge metroplex population center, which is continuing to expand at a significant pace. One of the world's largest casinos WinStar is just an hour away from D-FWs northern suburbs. By far, most of its customers are from Texas.
