1. M
O Reflect the triangle using FN as a mirror line. Then reflect triangle UNO using UFO as a mirror line N

Here are two example of a seven-sided polygon.

2. The lines of symmetry are UFO, MFN, a line parallel to UN and MO passing through point F and a line parallel to UM and NO passing through point F. 3. M

Lesson 2: More about polygons

1. An example of a convex polygon
F

Lesson 4: The Rhombus

2. In a convex polygon, the diagonals lie inside the polygon. In a concave polygon, one or more of the diagonals lie outside the polygon. 3. A regular polygon has all its sides equal and all its angles equal.

T
In an equilateral triangle all the sides are equal and all the angles equal 60. It is a regular triangle. In a square all the sides are equal and all the angles equal 90. It is a regular quadrilateral. Summary of properties All four sides are equal. The diagonals are not equal in length. The diagonals are perpendicular to each other. The diagonals bisect each other. The diagonals bisect the angles of a rhombus. Two pairs of opposite angles are equal. The diagonals are the lines of symmetry, therefore we have two lines of symmetry.

Lesson 5: The Convex Kite
A concave kite will have some of the same properties as the convex kite for example, that two pairs of adjacent sides are equal. In a concave kite, at least one diagonal lies outside the kite. We can even say that the polygon caves in or has sides that point inwards.

Lesson 7: The Rectangle

Square Angles Vertex angles are 90 All sides are equal Diagonals are perpendicular bisectors of each other Diagonals bisect the angles Diagonals are equal in length Four lines of symmetry Rectangle Vertex angles are 90 Two pairs of opposite sides are equal. Diagonals bisect each other Diagonals dont bisect angles Diagonals are equal in length Two lines of symmetry Rhombus Two pairs of opposite angles are equal All sides are equal Diagonals are perpendicular bisectors of each other Diagonals bisect the angles Diagonals arent equal Two lines of symmetry

Lesson 6: The Concave Kite

1.

Sides

Diagonals

3. Similarities: Both have two pairs of adjacent sides equal. The vertex angles are bisected by the diagonals which connect them. They have only one line of symmetry. Differences: Convex Kite
Both diagonals lie inside the shape.

Lines of symmetry

The shapes only have one property in common: the diagonals bisect each other.

Lesson 8: The Parallelogram

Concave Kite

One angle is not a reflex angle.

One diagonal lies outside the shape. One angle is a reflex angle. The diagonal connecting the vertex angles is not a perpendicular bisector of the other diagonal.

Note that this is one possible flow diagram there are many ways to show the relationships between the shapes.

The diagonal connecting the vertex angles is a perpendicular bisector of the other diagonal.

Lesson 9: The Trapezium
This is an investigation. You will need to remember the two types of trapeziums you have learnt. You will need a few different types of triangles. You should find that you can make a trapezium out of any triangle.

Lesson 10: All the Quadrilaterals

Parallelogram Two pairs of opposite angles are equal. The diagonals bisect each other. There are no lines of symmetry. 2. The Rhombus Rectangle All four angles equal to 90. The diagonals are equal and they bisect each other. There are two lines of symmetry.
