CONCAVE LENS

LENZ VS MIRRORZ

Lenz R da OPPOSITE of mirrorz

They REFRACT da lightz, not REFLECT it. Henz, lightz goes through lenz but in a ztate of refracted instead of reflected like in mirrorz. If a MIRROR iz a DIVERGENT, then da LENZ counterpart iz CONVERGENT, n VICE VERSA.

DIFFERENCE

What is Focal Length???

half a radius

The incident beams that are parallel to the main axis are refracted divergently, derived from the first focal point.

The rays that come toward the other focal point are refracted in a parallel fashion to the main axis

The incident rays that pass through the center of the lens are transmitted without being refracted

CAN COUNT ON IT

Before we proceed

What variables are there?

Objects

distance and height Images distance and height Magnification Focal length and Radius

Countingz
we can derive it into

where f and s2 is always negative

Magnificationz
Equation:

When counting the magnifications value, any minus (negative) value is negated.
Magnification affects the size of the objects image after being reflected or refracted. Magnification can be bigger or smaller than its original size. If its bigger, we call it magnified. If its smaller, we call it diminished.

EXAMPLE

A glass was put 10 cm in front of a concave lens which has a focal length of 15 cm. Find the magnification of the object.

EXAMPLE 2
A glass is put 5 cm in front of a concave lens with a focal length of 20 cm. Calculate the image distance from the lens and its magnification.

GREATER = CLOSER image

THE OPTICAL POWER OF LENS ARE DEFINED AS:
P = 1/F Where F = Focal Length (in Meters(m)) And P = Optical Power of Lens (in Dioptre(D))

EXAMPLE 1
An object is placed 12 cm in front of a lens and generates image of 3 cm in size. Find the optical power of lens!

EXAMPLE 2
A myopia sufferer wears glasses with focal length of 40cm. In order to be able to see objects clearly, what is the power of lens of the glasses?

USES

Glasses for Myopia

Camera

How is the image formation in concave lens?

Mention 3 uses of concave lens!

Mention 2 differences between mirror and lens!

Draw the three beams of concave lens!

FINAlz roundz : fighT!

An object of 6 cm is placed 10 cm in front of a concave lens with a focal length of 30 cm. Find:
A. The Distance of the Image from the Lens B. The Magnification C. The Image Height D. The Optical Power Of Lens E. Draw the Ray Diagram
