Welding processes limited to gas tungsten arc (GTAW) and gas metal arc (GMAW). GMAW is limited to NPS 2 and larger with nominal wall thickness of 2.77 mm (0.109 inch) minimum. Backing rings are not permitted. Inert gas backup is required. Welding procedures and welder's qualification shall be approved by DuPont prior to welding. Welders and welding procedure are to be qualified in accordance to ANSI/ASME B31.3. Protection of Underground Pipe: a. The underground pipe shall be shop coated with coal tar and wrapped with fiberglass as well as felt, per SZ282S. Use polyethylene tape for field applied joints and repairs per SZ290S.

After final assembly and testing and prior to back filling, apply "Bitumastic" and/or hot coal-tar enamel priming coat to all pipe joints (pipe flanges, bolts, nuts, rods, clamps) or any other material(s) uncoated and/or unwrapped per SZ7F. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
