Procedures:
1. I will ask all students to come to the rug and remind them how we behave during lessons. 2. Introduce the lesson by asking if anyone knows what the word career means, I will call on students who are raising their hand and sitting quietly. 3. I will then explain to the class what the word career means- a particular job that you are trained for that you plan on sticking with. Then I will ask the class to raise their hands if they know of any examples of careers in our community. I will also ask if anyone would like to share with the class what kind of job their parents have. 4. The smart board activity will be explained to the students and I will tell them I will use the method of drawing names on sticks from the cup to decide who gets to come up and participate. 5. As a class we will discuss if each decision the individual made with relation to the activity (class do you think Sally was right?) this will allow me to explain the correct answer if students do not understand or agree. 6. Once the smart board activity is completed we will review what the word career means as well as the examples we saw in the activity. 7. The book Building a House will be introduced and will talk about different careers found in our community we see every day. 8. At the conclusion of the book I will review the job titles depicted in the story 9. I will then ask students if they learned about any careers that they may be interested in that they had not thought of before. 10. I will then close whole group by instructing students on the order in which small groups will be held as well as modeling what will be asked of them during that time( Be thinking of the careers we just talked about so you can tell me about some of them in small groups!). 11. My small group will be a continuation of this lesson, each group of students sit around the kidney shaped table in front of me. 12. Laid in front of the students will be a coloring page of different careers found in our community. Students will color these to keep them busy while I do the individual assessment within the small groups. 13. I will then begin assessing each student individually by asking them to explain to me what a career is and give me at least two examples of a career and what that person does.

Accommodations:
Students who want extra time completing the career coloring sheet will be able to work on it in the art center during centers where supplies are provided. Students who need to be monitored closely by the teacher will be seated in front of the teacher during whole group instruction and or small group.
